Job Title: Diesel Mechanic (Intermediate or Experienced) – 2nd Shift

Job Description

This role supports the maintenance and reliability of a modern fleet of 52 Class 8 semi-trucks and walking floor trailers. You focus primarily on preventative maintenance and light-to-moderate repairs on a second-shift schedule, ensuring all trucks are safe, fully operational, and ready for drivers each morning. You will work both in a spotless shop and in the field using a fully equipped mobile service truck, performing a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and air system work while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on Class 8 semi-trucks to ensure daily readiness and reliability.

  • Diagnose and repair common mechanical and electrical issues on trucks and trailers.

  • Complete brake jobs, including inspection, replacement, and adjustment of braking components.

  • Perform tire-related work such as inspections, rotations, repairs, and replacements.

  • Replace and repair sensors, lighting systems, and related electrical components.

  • Repair and maintain airlines, identify and fix air leaks, and service related air systems.

  • Perform minor engine-related work on diesel engines, focusing on light-to-moderate repairs rather than heavy teardown.

  • Maintain and repair walking floor trailers to ensure safe and efficient operation.

  • Operate a fully equipped mobile service truck to travel between job sites and service locations.

  • Service equipment at demolition sites to ensure the fleet is ready for next-day operations.

  • Coordinate warranty-related repairs with vendors when major work or heavy teardown is required.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed service, maintenance, and repair records for all equipment.

  • Ensure all equipment meets safety, regulatory, and operational standards before release to drivers.

  • Work independently in a mobile service environment while communicating effectively with the team and leadership.

  • Apply strong attention to detail and quality workmanship in all maintenance and repair tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Entry-level to experienced diesel mechanic background with hands-on shop or field experience.

  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on Class 8 trucks.

  • Working knowledge of diesel engines and the ability to perform minor engine-related work.

  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues, including engines, transmissions, and driveline components.

  • Ability to diagnose and repair electrical issues, including sensors, lighting, and wiring.

  • Experience working with air systems, including airlines, air leaks, and related pneumatic components.

  • Experience with brakes, including inspection, repair, and replacement.

  • Experience with tires, including inspection, repair, and replacement.

  • Experience with trailer repair, including walking floor trailers.

  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in a truck or trailer environment.

  • Proficiency in preventive maintenance practices for diesel trucks and trailers.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a fully equipped mobile service truck.

  • Comfort working independently in a mobile service environment and traveling between job sites.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.

  • Ability to maintain accurate service and maintenance records and follow established procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with modern, warranty-covered Class 8 trucks.

  • Familiarity with coordinating warranty-related repairs with external vendors.

  • Comfort working both indoors in a shop environment and outdoors at various job sites.

  • Ability to work second shift hours with flexibility for 4/10 or 5/8 schedules.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and air system issues in the field.

  • Effective communication skills to interact with drivers, dispatch, and leadership regarding equipment status.

  • Reliability and consistency in following safety protocols and operational standards.

  • Interest in long-term employment in a stable, family-oriented work environment.

Why Work Here?

You join a family-owned organization known for exceptional employee tenure and a highly stable workload that does not slow down seasonally. The fleet is modern, well-maintained, and under warranty, which minimizes heavy teardown work and allows you to focus on preventative maintenance and manageable repairs. You work in an independent, trusted role with a direct impact on daily operations, supported by a culture that values long-term careers, teamwork, and a fun, collaborative atmosphere. You also benefit from a fully equipped service truck, flexible second-shift scheduling options, and a clean, well-organized shop environment.

Work Environment

You work a second-shift schedule with options for either Tuesday–Saturday or Wednesday–Saturday, depending on whether you prefer a 4/10 or 5/8 schedule. The typical start time is 11:00 p.m., with some flexibility in setting your hours from there. The role requires traveling from site to site using a fully equipped 200K mobile service truck, providing a mix of indoor shop work and outdoor field work at demolition and other job sites. The shop environment is described as completely spotless, reflecting a strong emphasis on organization, cleanliness, and professionalism. The team enjoys having fun while working, creating a supportive and enjoyable atmosphere, while maintaining a highly stable workload and consistent demand for maintenance and repair services.
