JOB SUMMARY
The Shop Mechanic is a safety-sensitive role responsible for the high-level maintenance, diagnostic troubleshooting, and repair of a diverse fleet of heavy construction equipment and on-highway trucks. This position ensures that the Asphalt and Paving division operates at peak efficiency by minimizing equipment downtime through rigorous preventive maintenance and rapid response corrective repairs. The ideal candidate is a skilled technician who balances technical expertise with a 'Safety First' mindset, ensuring all equipment meets manufacturer specifications and OSHA safety standards.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience; Trade school certification in Diesel Mechanics or Heavy Equipment Technology preferred.
CDL Class B, preferred
Work Experience
3-5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, specifically with brands such as CAT, Komatsu, Volvo, or John Deere.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Mechanical aptitude

Physical Requirements
Must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and large machinery (e.g., pavers, rollers, and haul trucks).
Able to work from elevated platforms and confined spaces.
Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing to access engine compartments or undercarriages.
High level of hand-eye coordination for using precision hand tools, air tools, and diagnostic laptops.
Able to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Travel
Based at fixed location.
Travel to jobsite.
Working Conditions
All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.
Must supply own working set of mechanical tools (check with local shop for specific details).
The hiring range for this position is $33.71 -$40 exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). The offered base compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The hiring range for this role represents the base compensation we expect to pay for the position at time of hire and does not represent the total possible base pay of the position.
