Job Summary:

The Dietary Aide is responsible for supporting the cook with all aspects of residents’ culinary experience. Duties include assisting with planning and preparation of resident meals and providing excellent service to residents.

 Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Preparing meals, snacks and beverages following specific procedures
  • Serving meals, ensuring food safety and hygiene procedures are always followed
  • Prepares cold food items, including salads, sandwiches, platters, desserts, nourishments, snacks, and special items as necessary
  • Assists in receiving and storing food and supplies to prevent waste and assure quality products
  • Responsible for scraping, stacking, washing, and sanitizing dishes, flatware, utensils, pots/pans, and for removing broken and chipped dishes and glassware from use
  • Properly transports and stores dishes, flatware, utensils, pots/pans, Responsible for having enough clean and sanitized dishes, flatware, utensils, pots/pans, to meet time schedule for meal preparation and service
  • Cleans and sanitizes the dish machine and dish room
  • Assists cook, if needed, in preparing and serving foods for all diets, including therapeutic diets, according to planned menus, using proper portions and special diet items
  • Sets up trays for service, sorts the diet cards and/or selective menus

 Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Displays a thorough understanding of all regulations (local, state, and federal) which affect dietary including, but not limited to, patient care, sanitation, labor, fire, safety, and disaster and complies to these regulations
  • Uses good judgment in conserving supplies, preventing food waste, and conserving utilities
  • Must demonstrate qualities of being a self-starter and be able to make independent decisions when necessary

Education and Experience:

  • 18 years of age

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand/walk up to eight hours per day
  • Able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Frequently kneels, bends, squats, climbs, and reaches
  • Must be able to move frequently throughout the workday
