Dietary Manager
Transitions Healthcare Washington, PA is currently seeking a Dietary Manager to lead our Dietary Services team.
The Dietary Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the facility's dietary department, ensuring residents receive high-quality meals that meet their nutritional needs, preferences, and prescribed diets. This position provides leadership to dietary staff while maintaining compliance with food safety, sanitation, and applicable state and federal regulations.
We are looking for an experienced food-service professional who enjoys leading a team and understands the importance of dining services in creating a positive experience for residents in a skilled nursing environment.
Dietary Manager Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the Dietary Services department, including meal preparation, service, sanitation, and staffing.
- Supervise, train, schedule, and provide day-to-day direction to dietary staff.
- Ensure meals, snacks, and therapeutic diets are prepared and served accurately and according to established menus, diet orders, resident preferences, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with nursing and other members of the interdisciplinary team regarding resident dietary needs and changes.
- Monitor food quality, portioning, presentation, temperatures, and meal-service schedules.
- Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, infection-control, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Oversee food and supply ordering, inventory levels, storage, labeling, and rotation while helping manage food costs and minimize waste.
- Ensure kitchen equipment, refrigerators, freezers, food-preparation areas, and dishwashing areas are maintained according to sanitation and safety standards.
- Maintain required dietary records, temperature logs, sanitation documentation, and other regulatory documentation.
- Assist with meal preparation and service when necessary to support the department and ensure resident needs are met.
- Promote a positive, resident-centered dining experience and respond appropriately to resident preferences and concerns.
- Partner with facility leadership to support departmental goals and overall quality of care.
Dietary Manager Qualifications:
- Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) credential highly preferred. Candidates who are not currently certified must be willing and eligible to obtain certification after accepting the position.
- Previous food-service experience required; healthcare, skilled nursing, senior living, or other institutional food-service experience strongly preferred.
- Previous supervisory or food-service management experience preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, therapeutic diets, and high-volume food preparation preferred.
- ServSafe certification preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with residents, staff, nursing, and facility leadership.
