JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

The Oncology Dietitian assesses the nutritional status of cancer patients, develops personalized nutrition care plans, and provides ongoing education and support to help patients maintain their nutritional health throughout treatment.

The Oncology Dietitian works closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide integrated, patient-centered care to oncology patients.

The position requires strong clinical judgment, patient education skills, collaboration, and knowledge of current oncology nutrition research and guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understands and adheres to White Plains Hospital Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
  • Assesses cancer patients' nutritional status and identifies nutrition-related needs.
  • Develops individualized nutrition care plans based on patient needs and treatment goals.
  • Provides ongoing nutrition assessment, education, and support throughout treatment.
  • Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision-making process, including recognition and prioritization of patient care needs.
  • Identifies nutritional concerns and addresses issues with appropriate clinical interventions.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to provide integrated patient care.
  • Integrates patient rights, preferences, and needs into clinical practice.
  • Utilizes and monitors appropriate infection-control methods.
  • Determines the learning needs of patients and families.
  • Provides nutrition education to patients, families, and healthcare providers.
