Summary

Conducts nutrition screening and routine nutrition assessments, develops and implements nutrition care plans for assigned patients, and documents the plan and follow-up information in the medical record. Coordinates mealtime activities and assists staff in preparation of hot and cold menu selections for meal services. Monitors quality and accuracy of food served to patients. The population served by this position is in the pediatric to geriatric age group, primarily in the 20 - 65 year old category.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possesses basic knowledge and application of the nutrition care process

  2. Requires the abo;out tp cpimsel and educate others and to plan nutrition care for individuals

  3. Ability to read and write and speak English and accomplish basic math calculations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum of an Associates degree granted by a U.S regionally accredited university or college and completion of a dietetic technician program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association. Experience as a dietetic technician or diet clerk preferred

  2. Registered or eligible for registration as a Dietetic Technician/Registered (DTR) by the Commission of Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

  3. Education and/or certification in Food Services sanitation.

  4. Experience working on a computer using word processing, spreadsheet and graphics software desired.

Essential Functions

  1. Performs routine nutrition screen/assessments on assigned patients under the guidance of a registered dietitian.

  2. Provides individual nutrition counseling counseling to patients at low nutritional risk, assesses patient understanding of prescribed diets and ability to make correct food choices.

  3. Provides appropriate documentation of assessments and education in the medical record.

  4. Plans and corrects menus for patients on specialized diets based on established guidelines and individualizes menus as needed.

  5. Monitors and verifies changes in diet orders or prescriptions. Assist food service in organization of menus and meal production for patient meal service.

  6. Assist staff in preparation of hot and cold menu selections for meal services.

  7. Oversees accuracy of patient meals during meal service. Coordinates and conducts periodic tray assessments according to quality standards and diet prescription.

  8. Helps orient new employees regarding therapeutic diets. Participates in community projects and education as needed/assigned.

  9. Is proactive in problem resolution and deadlines. Monitors and supports quality improvement efforts in food services and sanitation. Assures that follow-up action is taken by production crew as specified in survey results. Directs self and motivates employees to respond to customer needs, expectations and requests.

  10. Attendance is not disruptive in the ability to get the job done and set good example for staff.

  11. Appearance meets the requirements as set forward in department dress code policy.

  12. Actively supports organization's mission, vision, values and strategic directions. Develops staff support of same.

  13. Is compliant with and is a model of organizations definition of "Acceptable Behaviors". Assists new staff in accomplishing job responsibilities and adherence to acceptable behaviors as show of support.

  14. Complies with standards of safety.

  15. Maintains confidentiality.
