    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    The Dietitian will assist the Assistant Director of Child Nutrition in managing the food service operation, by ways of product testing/development, maintaining nutritional software programs, adult, and student nutrition education, and maintains all food production activities. Provided nutritional support and expertise in student special diets and other departmental needs.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Certification Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent educational experience with academic major in K-12 food and nutrition, dietetics, or related field.
    • Extensive knowledge of federal school meal programs and nutritional requirements.
    • Valid Texas Driver's License
    • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

    Special Knowledge and Skills

    • Manage and maintain nutritional software
    • Knowledge of the quantity of food production methods and procedures.
    • Experience with culinary techniques, recipe development, food quality, food presentation, and marketing.
    • Proficient in MS office and USDA approved menu planning software
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to collaborate in a team environment
    • Ability to multitask, appropriately prioritize, be detail-oriented and goal driven and willing to learn and assume responsibility.

    Experience

    • Minimum of one (1) years of relevant experience preferred

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    School Climate:

    • Monitor implementation of federal, state, and local regulations to ensure menu compliance.
    • Oversee menu compliance in school cafeteria, provide insight in employee training, and adjustments to recipes and menus.
    • Provide insight training and guidance regarding food quality and consistency at each campus.
    • Assist with food item selection in compliance with Smart Snacks Rule for a la carte sales in lunch program.
    • Assist with menu planning to ensure proper nutritional requirements.

    School Improvement:

    • Conduct yearly new product sampling with students at primary and secondary campuses.

    Instructional Management:

    • Provide menu assistance for students with special dietary needs through collaboration with nurses and other health care providers, parents, and child nutrition staff. Programs to include NSLP, SBP, ASCP, CACFP, SSO, and DoD FFV.

    Professional Growth and Develop:

    • Maintain all current certifications, licenses, and registrations by completing continuing education and reporting CE hours.

    School/Community Relations:

    • Interact regularly and professional with students, parents, campus administration, campus managers and staff.
    • Participate in efforts to promote community health.
    • Assist with review and distribution of the nutrition newsletter for parents
    • Assist with the promotion of the Nutrition Policy to promote student health and wellness.
    • Participate in child nutrition related activities after school and possible weekend events.

    Administrative and Fiscal Management:

    • Maintain records for students with special dietary needs.

    Other:

    • Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities as may be assigned by Child Nutrition Director or designee.
    • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
