Job Summary
Join our multidisciplinary bariatric team and make a meaningful impact on patients' health and wellness. Reporting to the Program Manager and/or bariatric surgeons, the Bariatric Dietitian provides expert nutrition guidance and counseling to patients undergoing weight loss surgery. You will develop, implement, and monitor individualized dietary recommendations, helping patients achieve their health and weight management goals.
In this role, you'll apply your knowledge of clinical nutrition, bariatric surgery principles, and patient education to create actionable nutrition care plans, assess patient progress, and support positive lifestyle changes.
What You'll Do
- Conduct thorough nutrition assessments for bariatric patients before and after surgery
- Develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans tailored to patient needs
- Provide counseling and education to patients and families regarding dietary changes, portion control, and healthy habits
- Monitor patient progress and adjust recommendations as needed
- Collaborate with bariatric surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare team members to ensure coordinated patient care
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in electronic health records
- Stay current on best practices in bariatric nutrition and weight management
- Educate patients on nutritional supplements, vitamins, and post-surgery diet protocols
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree in Nutrition preferred
Experience
- 1-2 years of clinical nutrition experience preferred, ideally with bariatric or surgical populations
Licensure/Certification
- Registered dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association required; or registry-eligible with registration attained within 6 months of hire
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of clinical nutrition principles, weight loss surgery, and patient counseling
- Excellent customer service and patient communication skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and computer applications
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently
