Job Title: Registered Dietitian – Inpatient Clinical Nutrition

Location: Syracuse, NY

Duration: 13-Week Contract

Schedule: Monday–Friday

Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours Weekly

Compensation:

  • Traveler Pay: $54–$57/hour ($2,160–$2,280/week) based on experience
  • Local Pay: $40–$45/hour ($1,600–$1,800/week) based on experience

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Dietitian to provide comprehensive inpatient clinical nutrition services across pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. The Dietitian will conduct nutrition assessments, develop individualized nutrition care plans, manage nutrition support therapies, and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will have strong critical care nutrition experience and expertise in complex nutritional management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to patients across the lifespan, including infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments and reassessments utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Screen patients for nutritional risk and identify malnutrition using established screening and diagnostic criteria.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans.
  • Diagnose, intervene, and monitor malnutrition to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare utilization.
  • Document nutrition assessments, interventions, progress notes, and recommendations in the electronic medical record.
  • Implement and modify nutrition-related interventions in accordance with approved protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Recommend and manage nutrition supplements, dietary modifications, texture modifications, and nutrition-related therapies.
  • Provide patient and family nutrition education and counseling.
  • Manage enteral and parenteral nutrition support therapies, including formula selection, adjustments, and monitoring.
  • Monitor laboratory values, clinical status, and nutritional outcomes to guide treatment decisions.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary care teams to support comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in patient care rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, performance improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and professional development activities.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, or a related field from an accredited institution required.
  • Master's Degree preferred.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential required.
  • Current registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required.
  • Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) Certification required.

Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years of inpatient clinical nutrition experience required.
  • Critical care nutrition experience required.
  • Pediatric clinical nutrition experience required.
  • Experience managing enteral and parenteral nutrition support required.
  • Experience diagnosing and treating malnutrition required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of clinical nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and evidence-based nutrition practices.
  • Expertise in nutrition support therapy, including enteral and parenteral nutrition management.
  • Proficiency in nutritional assessment, malnutrition diagnosis, and nutrition care planning.
  • Knowledge of nutrition-related laboratory interpretation and clinical monitoring.
  • Strong patient education and counseling skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and clinical documentation systems.
  • Commitment to quality patient care and continuous improvement.
