DIGITAL COMMERCE SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER

As the Digital Commerce Engineer, you will serve as the primary technical authority for the DanielDefense.com ecommerce platform. Reporting to the Director of Digital Commerce, you will own platform development, administration, infrastructure health, integrations, and site performance across the Magento Open Source storefront. This is a hands-on role that combines front-end and back-end development, platform administration, and technical leadership of external development partners.

Essential Functions:

Magento Storefront Development

• Develop and maintain the customer-facing Magento Open Source storefront, including theme and template development, layout XML, RequireJS, Knockout.js, and React front-end components.
• Own and extend the Three.js 3D product experience while maintaining performance requirements for a production ecommerce environment.
• Work effectively in existing legacy and modern JavaScript codebases; ship reliable, well-tested production code.

• Magento Platform Administration

• Serve as the primary Magento administrator; own technical and operational configuration of the platform.
• Create, test, schedule, and maintain cart price rules, catalog price rules, promotions, and coupon codes.
• Manage Magento users, roles, permissions, stores, websites, and core platform settings.
• Manage API users, credentials, and access for connected systems.
• Configure and troubleshoot shipping, payment, tax, and checkout settings in coordination with business and technical partners.
• Support order management and customer service workflows within Magento Admin.
• Review extensions, modules, and configuration changes before production deployment.
• Document critical Magento configurations and administrative processes.

• Platform Infrastructure and Reliability

• Own deployments, cache and index management, cron health, security patching, release cadence, and staging environments.
• Manage Linux-based server environments including Nginx/Apache, PHP-FPM, MySQL, Redis, Varnish, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Composer, and Bash scripting.
• Manage edge and delivery infrastructure including Cloudflare (WAF and bot mitigation), Amazon CloudFront, S3, DNS, and SSL/TLS.
• Own monitoring and alerting for the commerce platform; maintain incident-response, rollback, and disaster-recovery procedures.
• Maintain runbooks and architecture documentation so critical knowledge is not single-threaded.

• Site Performance

• Own Core Web Vitals and overall site performance including LCP, CLS, and INP.
• Drive improvements to full-page caching, image and asset strategy, CDN configuration, and third-party script governance.
• Identify performance regressions, determine root cause, and resolve rather than simply report.

• Integrations

• Build, maintain, and troubleshoot integrations between Magento and platforms supporting email, customer service, ERP, shipping, tax, fraud prevention, and other business functions using REST APIs, GraphQL, and webhooks.
• Manage the Magento side of integrations including API access, authentication, configuration, testing, and monitoring.
• Own the technical connections to Listrak (email/CDP), Zendesk (customer support), Optimizely (experimentation), Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity, OneTrust (privacy), UpSellit (conversion), and Authorize.net (payments).

• External Development Partners

• Direct the technical work of the external Magento development agency; own technical strategy independent of agency recommendations.
• Scope projects, write technical requirements, evaluate proposed solutions, review code, conduct quality assurance, and approve work for production release.
• Hold external partners accountable for quality and push back on solutions that are unnecessarily complex.

• Analytics and Experimentation

• Maintain and implement Google Tag Manager, GA4 ecommerce event tracking, Microsoft Clarity, and server-side tagging.
• Build A/B tests and personalization campaigns in Optimizely, including constructing test variants.
• Ensure data collection is accurate, complete, and trustworthy for business decision-making.

• Firearms Commerce Compliance

• Maintain and enhance the age-verification, FFL routing, and state-specific shipping restriction functionality required by the checkout experience.
• Develop and maintain payment processing redundancy appropriate for the firearms ecommerce environment.
• Follow PCI DSS-aware development practices and maintain consent and privacy requirements through OneTrust.
• Identify and retire technical debt deliberately and with appropriate documentation.

• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• 2+ years of experience building and operating ecommerce websites with meaningful hands-on experience on a mature commerce platform; direct Magento Open Source experience strongly preferred.
• Strong JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3/SCSS skills with experience writing and shipping production front-end code in both legacy and modern frameworks.
• Experience administering an ecommerce platform including promotions, users and permissions, integrations, checkout configuration, and day-to-day commerce operations.
• Comfortable working from the Linux command line in a cloud environment; AWS experience required.
• Experience integrating SaaS platforms through REST APIs, GraphQL, and webhooks; ability to manage API credentials, authentication, and platform-side integration configuration.
• Experience managing CDN and edge platforms including Cloudflare, CloudFront, or equivalent.
• Hands-on analytics implementation experience including tag management and ecommerce event tracking.
• Experience with Git-based workflows, CI/CD, branching, merging, and code review.
• Ability to investigate production issues using application logs, server logs, database information, and other diagnostic tools.
• Server-side development experience sufficient to trace and debug application issues; PHP preferred, Node, Python, Ruby, or C# transferable.
• Self-directed working style with ability to prioritize effectively on a small, remote team.
• Willingness to work for a firearms manufacturer and comfort navigating the technical and regulatory complexity of firearms ecommerce.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

• Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the workday.
• This is a remote position; occasional travel to Daniel Defense headquarters in Black Creek, Georgia is required, approximately quarterly.
• Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by your position and/or Company policy when on-site.
