Position: System Technician

Location: Los Angeles, CA 
Duration: 12+ Months Contract
Work Schedule: 4/40 Schedule (10-hour days, Monday–Thursday)
Travel: Up to 75% within Los Angeles County

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced System Technician to support the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of digital communications and telecommunications systems across Los Angeles County. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with PBX systems, VoIP technologies, telecommunications infrastructure, cloud-based communication platforms, and structured cabling environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, test, maintain, and repair digital, analog, and internet-based communication systems and equipment.
  • Support and maintain telecommunications infrastructure, including PBX systems, key telephone systems, VoIP platforms, and cloud communication services.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Microsoft Teams Voice, Cisco VoIP, Zoom, WebEx, and related collaboration technologies.
  • Install, program, maintain, and repair private branch exchange (PBX) and key telephone switching systems.
  • Perform installation, rehabilitation, and removal of copper and fiber-optic cabling, patch panels, jacks, and wire management systems.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and repair telephone and network cabling issues.
  • Configure, add, move, change, and troubleshoot enterprise VoIP equipment and call management platforms.
  • Support voicemail systems, call recording applications, automated attendants, interactive voice response (IVR), and telecommunications servers.
  • Work closely with vendors, engineers, network administrators, and county personnel to resolve operational issues and support system upgrades.
  • Provide technical support for telephone moves, adds, and changes (MAC activities).
  • Assist in evaluating communications equipment and recommending technical solutions.
  • Maintain documentation related to system configurations, installations, and troubleshooting activities.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License with no restrictions.
  • Reliable personal vehicle and ability to travel extensively throughout Los Angeles County (up to 75%).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience installing, configuring, testing, maintaining, and repairing PBX and key telephone switching systems.
  • At least 1 year of journey-level telecommunications or communications systems experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with:
    • NEC PBX Systems
    • Nortel Norstar Key Phone Systems (MICS, CallPilot, Trunk/Station Modules, RAD)
    • Cisco VoIP Solutions
    • Microsoft Teams Voice
  • Experience supporting enterprise telecommunications environments.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications circuits, modems, multiplexers, repeaters, and channel banks.
  • Familiarity with voice and low-voltage wiring standards and color codes.
  • Experience working with structured cabling, fiber optics, and network infrastructure.

Required Skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications protocols, systems, and installation standards.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Experience supporting users in a fast-paced enterprise environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and tools weighing 10–25 pounds regularly and occasionally more than 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work on ladders (6 feet and above).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, twist, reach, and perform physical installation activities.
  • Requires color perception, visual acuity, and physical dexterity to safely perform job duties.

Additional Information

  • California residents located near Los Angeles County are strongly preferred.
  • Work hours may vary between 6:30 AM and 6:00 PM based on operational needs.
  • Occasional after-hours and overtime work may be required.
  • Mileage, fuel, and vehicle wear-and-tear expenses are not reimbursable.
