This position will support the university's Department of Computer Science (UTCS), which boasts a top ten ranking from US News and more than 6,500 students across all programs. This places UT among the most significant intellectual hubs for computer science research and education anywhere in the world. UTCS has a close relationship with Austin's thriving tech culture and works at the forefront of fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, and cybersecurity.

Purpose

Do you have a sharp editorial eye and a strong instinct for what performs on social media? UT Computer Science is hiring a Digital Content & Community Intern to grow and engage our online community while executing and advising on our social media strategy. In this role, you'll help turn news, research, and student stories into content that resonates and sparks conversation. You'll shape social-first narratives and build meaningful connections with audiences across platforms. You'll also track performance trends to grow awareness and engagement for one of the top-ranked CS departments in the country. In this role, you will learn:

  • How to write high-performing digital content with a clear brand voice
  • Real-world experience in messaging, campaign planning, and publishing
  • Insights into how higher ed marketing teams use audience data to drive decisions
  • Portfolio-quality samples that span web, social, and email content
  • Collaboration in a structured, fast-paced content environment
  • Exposure to digital tools used across content and marketing industries
  • Hands-on experience building and managing an engaged online community
  • How to translate engagement data into stronger, more interactive content strategies

Responsibilities:

  • Write and schedule platform-specific copy for Instagram, LinkedIn, and other channels
  • Build and track monthly campaign calendars that align with department goals and content priorities
  • Analyze social performance metrics and generate monthly insights and trend reports
  • Stay current on digital trends and suggest experiments in content formats and tone
  • Collaborate with writing interns to adapt long-form stories into high-performing social content
  • Coordinate with the design intern to develop compelling visual assets for social and email
  • Partner with the SEO intern to amplify externally trending topics or optimize social reach
  • Assist with website updates and email marketing copy as needed
  • Contribute ideas in weekly team meetings and help evolve our digital strategy
Required Qualifications
  • Strong writing skills with a sharp sense of platform tone and visual rhythm
  • Deep understanding of how different content types perform on Instagram, LinkedIn, and X
  • Curiosity about content trends and how they intersect with storytelling and brand
  • Comfort with social media analytics, performance tracking, and report writing
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple pieces of a campaign
  • Strong intuition for audience engagement and online community dynamics
  • Experience engaging with audiences or managing comments/DMs for a brand, org, or personal platform is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Later, Agorapulse, Canva, or Asana is helpful but not required
Salary Range $15/hour
