Digital Editor, Southern Living

Southern Living is seeking a Digital Editor with a passion for Southern culture. The ideal candidate is a digital-savvy storyteller with an interest in all things lifestyle, from travel and home design to traditions and up-and-coming trends. This person isa strong writer with a love of great stories, a knowledge of all things Southern, and a desire to bring inspiration and service to our audience. The right candidate loves the fast-paced, ever-changing digital space and is up for any challenge.

Hybrid 3x a week- Birmingham, Alabama In-office Expectations: This position is hybrid in-office, with the ability to work remotely for up to 2 days per week.

Essential Job Functions
  • Pitch and write evergreen and news stories optimized for performance on multiple traffic channels (Google Discover, newsletter, social, search) for SouthernLiving.com, managing stories from research and ideation to production
  • Assign, produce, and edit freelance stories, including editing feedback and general communication
  • Collaborate with Southern Living editorial on ad-hoc projects, such as ideation of videos, social content, or newsletters
  • Collaborate with the Southern Living print staff to co-create content to be used in print and online
  • Assist in updates to existing content for accuracy, style, or general quality
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong writer with a point of view and love of reporting on Southern culture
  • Interest and/or background in editing or writing about travel, home, garden, and/or Southern culture
  • Excellent copy editing skills
  • Strong understanding of the digital content landscape and best practices
  • Experience with a content management system and digital analytics
  • Ability to turn digital analytics into strategy and story ideas
  • Consistently up to date with Southern and lifestyle trends, with a pulse on relevant news and topics of interest
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Proactive, flexible team player

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

Minimum 3-5 years of experience that demonstrates exceptional writing, reporting, and researching
