The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2026. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $30.18 - $42.65 per hour.

This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Union Contract represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.

Distinguishing Features of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for identifying and extracting data from digital devices in support of investigations performed by law enforcement staff. Duties include identification, extraction and recovery of digital evidence from a variety of electronic devices and disseminating data to appropriate staff conducting criminal investigations in the Sheriff's Office. This position participates in an evidentiary chain of custody process and may testify in court as to the process' integrity. Data and digital evidence extracted from electronic devices is critical to criminal investigations and involves sensitive subject matter. This work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

Work Environment

These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. CONSTANT: Talk/speak, hearing close proximity (0-5 feet), vision (near, and color vision), lift and push/pull while stationary (up to 20 lbs), carry and push/pull while moving about (up to 20 lbs), fingering, grasping, handling, sitting, rotating neck, turning left and right wrists, works alone, with others, around others, and inside. FREQUENT: Midrange vision; hearing distance (up to 20 ft.); balance, bend neck, feeling, fingering, maintain posture, reach, reach above shoulder, walking OCCASIONAL: Lift and push/pull while stationary (up to 50 lbs); carry and push/pull while moving about (up to 50 lbs); far vision and depth perception, moving about, standing, use of earphone or headset RARE: Lift 50 - 100 lbs, climbing stairs, kneeling, stooping/bending, twisting (waist), work outside.

Selection Process

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail):

  • Associate's degree in computer science, cyber security, forensic analysis, law enforcement or other related degree AND one (1) year full-time, paid, verifiable experience in a position with responsibility for compiling, recovering and preserving digital evidence; OR four (4) years full-time, paid, verifiable experience in a licensed law enforcement role, with responsibility for compiling, recovering and preserving digital evidence.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
