We are looking for engineering students to join the Digital Industries Automation Internship Program - Application Engineering Track. This position will be based at one of our DI Automation hubs, including but not limited to Alpharetta, GA; Elk Grove Village, IL; Harleysville, PA; and Lebanon, OH.

This 12-week summer internship (May 17 - August 6, 2027) is designed to introduce you to Siemens industrial automation controls and embedded systems and help you develop technical proficiency, product knowledge, cross-collaboration, customer consulting, and problem-solving skills. This internship will prepare you for a potential opportunity with our full-time 18-month Automation Genesis development program after graduation.

You'll make an impact by:

  • Collaborating with experienced application engineers to on designing, testing, and feasibility analysis of industries automation solutions and technologies, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs) and digital drivetrain, computer numerical controls (CNCs), and industrial networking and cybersecurity
  • Learning about modern discrete manufacturing challenges and how the latest factory automation, motion control, and simulation technologies help customers improve productivity, quality, flexibility, and operational efficiency
  • Contributing to projects such as:
  • Creating proof of concept specifications and systems, programming and debugging codes, testing automation solutions, and validating performance requirements
  • Building and upgrading demos for new products and features to support customer-facing engagements
  • Documenting customer requirements and defining technical solutions
  • Preparing technical training and internal enablement materials, and detailing customer programs to support knowledge transfer and adoption

Eligibility Requirement:

This internship is a structured experiential learning program for individuals currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program who will continue their studies following the assignment. Current and continuing enrollment is a condition of participation. Applicants who have completed or expect to complete their educational program before or during the assignment period are encouraged to explore our Early Career/ Leadership Development opportunities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics or related majors
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours per week), Monday - Friday, from May 17 to August 6, 2027
  • Strong interest in industrial automation, manufacturing technologies, robotics, motion control, industrial networking, or Industry 4.0
  • Foundational knowledge of control systems, industrial automation technologies, industrial networking, mechanical systems, or related engineering concepts
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and resourcefulness, with strong aptitude for troubleshooting technical challenges and developing solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts, and contribute in professional and customer-facing environments
  • Strong organization and time management skills, as well as acute attention to detail for managing multiple priorities and complex projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cross-collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Must be willing and able to relocate to any of our DI Automation hubs for the summer. Location is assigned based on business needs, and relocation assistance is provided if you are required to relocate more than 50 miles from your permanent residence.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 20% for customer visits, job shadows, trade shows, and training events, and have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership roles through student organizations, design teams, research groups, athletics, or other extracurriculars
  • Experience with control systems, Ethernet networking, windows app development, power electronics, mechanical statics/dynamics, software simulation
  • Foundational programming experience in any language/environment, such as PLC Languages (IEC 61131), C#, Python, C/C++, Java, Matlab, etc.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

The hourly pay range for this position $30.00 - $32.00 per hour, based off of your projected graduation year. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location. Additionally, interns for Siemens are eligible to contribute into our 401K program.
