The Digital Systems Engineer II at Kform will design, develop, configure, and integrate connected hardware and software architectures across Kform products and engineering systems.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign physical and logical architectures across office, engineering, laboratory, manufacturing, and customer or field environments, including systems that operate on premises, at the edge, or with intermittent connectivity.Configure and administer switches, firewalls, wireless networks, servers, endpoints, gateways, identity and access services, and supporting infrastructure.Define network segmentation, routing, addressing, access paths, and data flows between enterprise IT, operational technology, test systems, and external services.Define infrastructure, network, access, and deployment configurations as version-controlled code wherever practical. Build and maintain automation for provisioning, configuration, validation, backup, and recovery.Use Git-based review and change practices to test, approve, document, and reproduce system changes; retain configuration baselines and rollback paths.Integrate manufacturing equipment, sensors, controllers, edge computers, and test systems with engineering, ERP, quality, and other business applications. Define interfaces and coordinate custom APIs or application services with software engineers and vendors.Establish device onboarding, asset inventory, configuration, patching, monitoring, backup, and recovery practices that account for production uptime, equipment constraints, and safety.Support protection of controlled unclassified information and export-controlled technical data through system boundaries, access controls, logging, and documented evidence, in coordination with cybersecurity and program owners.Troubleshoot failures across networks, operating systems, devices, automation, and application interfaces; validate integrations in labs and on the manufacturing floor.Maintain network diagrams, system inventories, interface definitions, configuration records, runbooks, and change documentation. Support controlled processes and records for the quality management system.Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, quality, cybersecurity, software, and IT partners to plan deployments, manage dependencies, and resolve issues through operation.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; or equivalent demonstrated experience.Professional experience designing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting networked infrastructure and systems.Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, switching, routing, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, and network segmentation.Professional experience with infrastructure as code, configuration management, and scripting or automation. Ability to manage system definitions and changes in Git and troubleshoot the automation as well as the infrastructure it configures.Experience administering Windows and/or Linux systems, identity and access, monitoring, backups, and recovery.Experience integrating physical devices or equipment with network and application infrastructure, including defining and validating data flows and interfaces.Ability to independently take an infrastructure or integration change from architecture through implementation, validation, documentation, and operational handoff.Clear technical writing and hands-on troubleshooting across IT and OT boundaries.
Preferred QualificationsExperience with Ansible, Terraform or OpenTofu, PowerShell, Python, or comparable automation tools.Experience with industrial networks, machine connectivity, PLCs, SCADA, MES, manufacturing test systems, or edge gateways.Experience integrating CAD/PLM, ERP, quality, manufacturing, and test systems through vendor interfaces, APIs, and data exchange.Experience in defense, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, or other environments handling controlled information.Familiarity with NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, and NIST SP 800-82 guidance, and with documenting technical controls and supporting audit evidence.Experience with secure cloud or government cloud environments, Microsoft 365 GCC High, and hybrid infrastructure.Experience with disconnected or intermittently connected deployments and equipment with constrained patch or maintenance windows.
Skills and AbilitiesTranslate operational, security, and production needs into practical systems architecture.Write maintainable automation, review changes, test deployments, and restore known-good configurations.Balance security with equipment reliability, production continuity, and operator safety.Work with software engineers on interfaces and integrations without requiring full-stack product development.Explain system boundaries, risks, and decisions clearly to engineering, manufacturing, quality, and leadership teams.Own problems through resolution and leave systems and documentation usable by the next person.
Working ConditionsWork at a computer workstation and hands-on in laboratories, manufacturing areas, and occasional customer or field environments.Standing, walking, connecting equipment, installing hardware, and using tools may be required.Personal protective equipment may be required during installation, testing, and manufacturing activities.
Other RequirementsCommitment to Kform’s core values, including ownership, teamwork, and continuous improvement.Ability to handle sensitive program information in accordance with applicable company and customer requirements.Willingness to support planned maintenance, integration, deployment, and incident response outside normal hours when necessary.
