Job Description

Dimensional Inspection Programmer (Automotive CMM)

Where: Detroit, MI
Hours: Mon–Fri, 6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. (overtime and scheduled weekends required)
Pay: Up to $30.00/hour, commensurate with proven experience

What you will do

  • Program CMMs in PC‑DMIS from engineering blueprints using GD&T aligned to ANSI 14.5.
  • Perform comprehensive direct‑drive CMM and bench layouts for automotive parts, inspection fixtures, and machine jigs.
  • Operate multiple pieces of metrology equipment concurrently to meet deadlines.
  • Conduct capability studies; analyze and communicate findings.
  • Certify check fixtures and document results in the MQ1 system.
  • Execute dimensional gage certifications and gage R&R studies.
  • Enter gages into the gage system; keep calibrations and statistical studies current in MQ1.
  • Compare results to blueprint tolerances; promptly alert designated personnel to discrepancies.
  • Assist with PPAP submission requirements and documentation control.
  • Work to MIOSHA and internal safety standards, using required PPE at all times.
  • Support continuous improvement; maintain a clean, orderly work area.
  • Demonstrate punctual, reliable attendance; perform other duties as assigned.
  • Be willing and able to work any assigned shift and accept short‑notice overtime.

Qualifications

  • Standards & training: Understanding of TS16949 and ISO‑14001 procedures; safety training completed.
  • Technical proficiency: Bench layout, GD&T, blueprint reading, SPC, Gage R&R, visual defects & audits, work instructions/standards, quality check sheets, scrap reporting, cylinder handling, fixtures, setup procedures, tagging, part containment, part quality history.
  • Tools: Skilled with calipers, micrometers, height gages, radius gages, and related metrology instruments.
  • Work style: Self‑directed, detail‑focused, and collaborative.

Education & experience

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college/technical school; or minimum 1 year operating a CMM with PC‑DMIS and/or formal training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation & schedule details

  • Hourly role, up to $30.00 per hour depending on proven work history.
  • Core schedule is days; overtime and some weekends are mandatory when scheduled.
