JOB SUMMARY

The Dining Room Server greets and serves Members and guests in the Club's dining room, providing attentive, professional food and beverage service consistent with ANC's standards of hospitality. This individual takes pride in delivering a warm, polished dining experience and works closely with the kitchen, bar, and banquet teams to ensure every meal runs smoothly, embodying the Club's shared spirit of “Serve Those Who Serve” in every interaction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

•          Represent the Army and Navy Club as a professional “goodwill ambassador” at all times, embodying the Club's shared spirit of “Serve Those Who Serve”

•          Greet Members and guests warmly upon arrival and escort or seat them as needed

•          Present menus, answer questions about menu items, ingredients, and preparation methods, and make recommendations

•          Take accurate food and beverage orders and enter them into the point-of-sale system promptly

•          Serve food and beverages in accordance with Club service standards, including proper tray handling and plate presentation

•          Check in with Members and guests throughout the meal to ensure satisfaction and promptly address any concerns

•          Clear and reset tables between courses and after guests depart, maintaining a clean and organized dining room

•          Process payments and Member charge accounts accurately, in accordance with Club procedures

•          Communicate with kitchen and bar staff to ensure timely and accurate delivery of orders

•          Follow all sanitation rules and regulations, including proper food handling and alcohol service laws

•          Check identification and follow responsible alcohol service practices in accordance with DC ABRA regulations

•          Set up and break down the dining room, including linens, silverware, glassware, and table settings, before and after service

•          Maintain current knowledge of daily specials, menu changes, and upcoming events

•          Assist with banquet and private event service as needed

•          Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of Member and guest information at all times

•          Report equipment issues, safety hazards, or maintenance needs to a supervisor immediately

•          Attend all required training sessions, including food safety and responsible alcohol service

•          Maintain regular and reliable attendance for scheduled shifts; position will require nights, weekends, and holidays. Notify supervisor of scheduling requests at least one week in advance

•          Perform other duties as assigned; responsibilities may evolve based on operational needs

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

•          Prior serving experience in a full-service restaurant, hotel, or club preferred, but not required; on-the-job training provided

•          High school diploma or GED preferred

•          Must be able to read, write, and speak English clearly enough to communicate with Members, guests, and staff

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

•          Strong knowledge of dining room service standards and etiquette, or willingness to learn

•          Ability to multitask and stay organized during busy service periods

•          Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

•          Basic math skills for handling checks and payments accurately

•          Ability to work well as part of a team across kitchen, bar, and banquet staff

•          Professional, polished appearance and demeanor appropriate for a private Club setting

Certifications & Compliance

•          Must be at least 18 years of age to serve alcohol in accordance with DC ABRA regulations

•          DC Food Handler Certification required within 30 days of hire, in accordance with DC Health Department regulations

•          ABRA-approved responsible alcohol service training (e.g., TIPS) required within 30 days of hire

•          Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout an entire shift; position requires constant standing and walking

•          Regularly required to carry loaded trays of food and beverages weighing up to 25–30 lbs.

•          Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motion while serving and clearing tables

•          Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 30 lbs.

•          Requires manual dexterity for handling glassware, china, and silverware without breakage

•          Requires color vision, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
