Position Summary: Direct Care Supervisors and the House Manager supervise a supportive adult apartment program by supervising staff and facilitating individuals receiving services to acquire independence skills and self-esteem needed to establish and achieve personal goals. Full-time, awake position.  

Primary Duties & Essential Functions:

  • Develops, maintains, and utilizes a sound working knowledge of regulations of the governing agency.
  • Sound working knowledge of Vanderheyden policies, practices, and systems.
  • Knowledge of Vanderheyden mission.
  • Working knowledge of management practice.
  • Adheres to the DSP Code of Ethics.
  • Demonstrates the ability to meet the OPWDD Core Competency standards and ability to observe and provide feedback to others on performance of OPWDD Core Competency standards within OPWDD programs.
  • Maintains current with all required trainings.
  • Safely transports individuals as assigned per level of supervision required.
  • Provides direct support to individuals as needed and necessary.
  • Completes all assignments thoroughly and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality of staff, individuals served, and their families.
  • Ensures supervision is completed according to agency standards.
  • Completes assignments as assigned by supervisor or designee.
  • Reflects a positive approach towards individuals receiving services, their families, the job, and other service providers.
  • Can plan effectively and take action without ongoing prompts.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of program status and potential issues.
  • Makes sound decisions within the realm of responsibility.

Required Education, Knowledge and Skills:

  • 1 year of experience as a Direct Support Professional.
  • High school diploma/GED or associate's degree, preferably in the Human Service field, preferably with a similar population.

Abilities and Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work a minimum 40-hour work week.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and run for moderate periods of time.
  • Must have a valid NYS driver's license with clean MVR.
  • Must be able to perform physical interventions and maintain SCIP certification
  • Willingness to respond to the needs of a culturally diverse population.
  • Maintains medication administration certification per program standards.
  • Work weekend and evening hours as outlined in schedule.
  • Can adequately communicate orally and in writing.
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Promotes and supports cultural diversity and is sensitive to those served.

 

Pay: $24.00 - $25.75 an hour based on education and experience.
