    Job Description

    Direct Care Supervisor

Women with Children Residential Recovery Program

Are you a compassionate, hands-on leader who knows how to build strong teams and create a safe, supportive environment? Do you want your work to make a meaningful difference for women and children as families move forward in recovery?

Sojourner House is seeking a Direct Care Supervisor to lead our team of Recovery Support Specialists in our 24/7 residential treatment program for women and their children. This is an active leadership role for someone who enjoys coaching employees, solving problems, improving operations, and remaining connected to the clients and families we serve.

    About the Role

The Direct Care Supervisor oversees the Recovery Support component of the residential program and helps ensure safe, reliable staffing coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The supervisor provides day-to-day leadership, training, scheduling support, performance feedback, and operational oversight for the Recovery Support Specialist team.

Because our program operates around the clock, this position requires flexibility and will include some evening and weekend hours to provide visible leadership across shifts, support staff, and respond to program needs.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead, coach, train, and support Recovery Support Specialists across all shifts.
    • Coordinate staffing schedules and help maintain appropriate 24/7 program coverage.
    • Provide regular supervision, performance feedback, and accountability.
    • Support employee onboarding, training, and continued professional development.
    • Maintain a consistent leadership presence across daytime, evening, overnight, and weekend operations.
    • Step into the Recovery Support Specialist role when coverage or program needs require.
    • Oversee daily residential operations, including apartments, common areas, supplies, safety, and facility needs.
    • Coordinate medication-monitoring processes and ensure staff are appropriately trained to perform assigned medication responsibilities.
    • Maintain inventories and coordinate the ordering of program and operating supplies.
    • Promote clear shift communication, accurate documentation, and consistent implementation of program expectations.
    • Help resolve staff and client concerns using a calm, professional, and solution-focused approach.
    • Monitor compliance with licensing, credentialing, quality-assurance, and regulatory requirements.
    • Identify opportunities to strengthen program operations, staff performance, client experience, and facility practices.
    • Collaborate with clinical, administrative, childcare, and program leadership.
    • Support an environment that promotes recovery, healthy coping skills, parenting, life skills, dignity, and family stability.

    What Will Help You Succeed

    • Strong leadership, coaching, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
    • Ability to motivate employees, establish expectations, and develop an effective team.
    • Ability to balance compassion with consistency and accountability.
    • Professional, respectful, and client-focused communication.
    • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during conflicts, call-offs, emergencies, or unexpected program needs.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-moving residential environment.
    • Understanding of substance use disorders, recovery, mental health, parenting, family systems, or child development.
    • Commitment to cultural humility, inclusion, workplace harmony, and person-centered care.
    • Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, behavioral health, management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
    • At least one year of paid relevant experience is required.
    • Two years of experience in residential programming, staff supervision, behavioral health, substance use treatment, human services, or a related setting is strongly preferred.
    • An equivalent combination of education, training, leadership, and relevant experience may be considered.

    Additional Requirements

    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Ability to obtain Pennsylvania Act 33, Act 34, and FBI clearances. Required clearances are reimbursed by the employer after a contingent offer.
    • Ability to complete TB testing, reimbursed by the employer.
    • Ability to meet required training, safety, and regulatory standards.
