Direct Support Jobs with Deaf Adults

Strategies to Empower People (STEP) is hiring full-time and part-time Direct Support Staff to provide in-home and community support for adults with physical disabilities as well as Developmental Disabilities including Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, intellectual disabilities, and more.

This position supports people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing and can require AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) skills.

WHAT IS THE JOB?

Direct Support Staff provide hands-on support for our clients. We are looking for empathetic, patient, and creative individuals who can help our clients find new ways to grow their independence! This includes support with activities like:

• Hygiene (showering, toileting, bathing, etc.)
• Food preparation and meal assistance
• Developing relationships in their community
• Money management
• Personal growth and health management
• And much more!

This is an ENTRY-LEVEL position that benefits from prior experience but does not require it!

This position may require a level of AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) skill.

If you don't have any AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) skills but are open to learning this may also be the job for you! Many of our clients and employees are happy to help non-signers pick up language skills!

Qualified applicants:

• Must be 18+ with a high school diploma, GED, or Certificate of Completion
• May be required to provide CA Driver License, current auto insurance, and maintain a clear Motor Vehicle Record for positions that require driving
• May be required to register with In-Home Support Services
• May require AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) skills, depending on the person being supported

The entry-level rate of pay for this position ranges from $16.90 (asleep rate) to $18.25 (awake rate) per hour, and is dependent on schedule type and applied AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) skill.

Hours paid via In-Home Support Services range from $17.90 to $19.15 depending on county.

SCHEDULE

We hire for a variety of schedules, including Monday-Friday shifts, overnight shifts and weekend shifts. The more open your availability, the more potential to join our team!

LOCATION

Our Direct Support Staff provide support in the Greater Sacramento area, which can include South Sacramento, Carmichael, Citrus Heights, and other surrounding areas.
