Job Description

Starting rate $18/hr., with increases up to $20/hr. within an employee's first year!

Full Time or Part time positions available. 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift! Weekend hours are required.

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will partner with the people that they support to provide education, exposure, and experience to opportunities for a meaningful life. This can include community experience to become an integrated member of their community to promote and achieve the highest level of independence. The DSP will work as part of a team to promote the qualities of a typical life based upon the persons desires, abilities and preferences.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Work or life experience in the I/DD field is a plus but not mandatory. Must be able to lift and transfer 50 lbs. Must have the ability to work in a variety of settings that may change frequently. This position requires the availability for flexible work schedules. Must have basic computer skills or the ability to learn. A valid driver's license that meets the requirements of Star's insurance company that includes at least 3 years of driving is required. Must be able to speak and write proficiently in English.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist the people supported with education, home care, basic health and hygiene, transportation, housing, family services, vocational training, rehabilitation, or helping people integrate into their local community.
  • Promote every opportunity for learning and growth.
  • Advocate for the person's choices and preferences.
  • See each person as an adult and promote individuality.
  • Provide educational opportunities to allow each person to learn and grow.
  • Must put the wants and needs of the people supported first and be able to connect and relate to people of all abilities.
  • Assist each person with their basic health and hygiene needs.
  • Complete all daily, weekly, and monthly documentation as required.
  • Obtain and maintain certification as a Certified Medication Technician (CMT).
  • Obtain and maintain certification in CPR/First Aide
  • Successfully complete all DDA required trainings upon hire and maintain all required annual trainings. Will also complete other agency and person-centered trainings as required.
  • Demonstrate competency for the use and operation of any adaptive equipment for each person supported.
  • Provide safe transportation using Star's vehicles. Maintain the upkeep and cleanliness of agency vehicles.
  • Communicate effectively with people supported based upon their abilities.
  • Maintain positive communication with supervisor, team members, administrative staff, and stakeholders. Work together collaborative to support people in living their meaningful life.
  • Assist the people you support in maintaining safety, cleanliness and overall appearance of their environment.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
