The Opportunity
As a Direct Support Professional, you will be a mentor, teacher, guide, and advocate for adults with I/DD, helping them build skills, independence, and confidence in everyday life.
This is a hands-on role where you will see the direct impact of your work every day, with opportunities to grow your skills, take on more responsibility, and build a long-term career in human services.
What You'll Do
- Support individuals with I/DD in daily living activities, including personal care, routines, and basic life skills, while promoting as much independence as possible.
- Accompany and assist clients with community access, including appointments, errands, social events, and recreational activities.
- Coordinate and provide transportation to medical appointments and other scheduled activities, ensuring clients are safe, prepared, and supported.
- Encourage positive peer interactions and social engagement, helping clients build friendships, communication skills, and confidence.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, families, and team members, documenting services as required and contributing to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
What Success Looks Like
- Within the first few months, you build trusting, respectful relationships with the individuals you support and understand their goals, preferences, and support needs.
- You consistently arrive on time, follow support plans, and maintain high standards of safety, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Clients demonstrate progress toward greater independence, community participation, and social engagement as a result of your coaching and support.
- You collaborate effectively with your team, communicate clearly about client needs and changes, and actively participate in training and feedback to improve your practice.
What We're Looking For
- Good judgment and problem-solving skills, especially in day-to-day situations that require calm, thoughtful responses.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- A genuine passion for helping others, with the willingness to learn, take feedback, and grow within the role.
- At least 21 years of age, with reliable transportation, a valid CA driver’s license, and the ability to pass a background check; experience in human services or American Sign Language skills are a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
- Benefits for full-time positions, including health insurance, flexible schedules, and opportunities for ongoing training and development
- Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
- Day shifts with rotating weekend availability; 4-hour and 8-hour shifts available, in-person
