    Direct Support Professional/Strengthening Pathways    

    \n

    Hours: Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

    \n

    The Direct Support Professional (DSP) in the Strengthening Pathways program provides individualized support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, or other support needs. This role focuses on fostering independence, enhancing life skills, and promoting community inclusion through a person-centered, strengths-based approach.

    \n

    This position is classified as a Safety-Sensitive Function under applicable federal and state laws, including U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations (49 CFR Part 40 and 49 CFR Part 382, as applicable). As such, the individual in this role is subject to drug and alcohol testing requirements, including but not limited to:

    • Pre-employment drug testing
    • \n
    • Random drug and alcohol testing
    • \n
    • Reasonable suspicion testing
    • \n
    • Post-accident testing
    • \n
    • Return-to-duty and follow-up testing (if applicable)
    • \n
    \n

    The use of marijuana (including medical marijuana), even if legal under state law, is prohibited under federal DOT regulations for individuals performing safety-sensitive functions. All applicants must be able to comply with federal and state laws governing drug and alcohol use and testing.

    Qualifications

    \n
    • \n
    • High School Diploma/GED with one year of experience in human services preferred
    • \n
    • Basic computer skills for daily documentation/email
    • \n
    • Complete CPS training within 30 days of hire
    • \n
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
    • \n
    • Compassionate, patient, and caring with a desire to help others
    • \n
    • Strong communications both verbal and written
    • \n
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect privacy
    • \n
    \n

    Responsibilities

    \n

    ·        Ensure the safety and security of all participants at all times

    \n
    • \n
    • Assist, instruct and monitor participant’s involvement in daily enrichment activities to promote skill development according to their individualized goals
    • \n
    • Must provide support for toileting needs
    • \n
    • Must be empathetic, patient, and respectful of individual dignity and grace
    • \n
    • Able to offer emotional encouragement, build rapport, and foster self-esteem and social engagement
    • \n
    • Able to use behavior support strategies, de-escalation and crisis intervention as needed
    • \n
    • Maintain healthy and safe work environment
    • \n
    • Clean up after participants- wiping down tables and sweeping floors
    • \n
    • Complete daily documentation of progress and goals in a timely manner in Setworks
    • \n
    • Works as a team player with colleagues to promote positive and engaging work environment
    • \n
    • Have quarterly meetings with supervisor for performance review/goal setting implementation/coaching
    • \n
    • Complete annual required online training on Relias training platform
    • \n
    • Attend in-person professional development/team building training
    • \n
    • Advocate for the rights of individuals with IDD in various settings, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
    • \n
    • Supports the mission and vision of Lighthouse Vocational Services
    • \n
    • All Other tasks as assigned
    • \n
    \n

    Physical Requirements

    \n

    ·        Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods of time

    \n

    ·        Ability to move quickly in emergency situations

    \n

    ·        Ability to lift up to fifty pounds

    \n

    ·        Able to push and pull up to forty pounds

    \n

    ·        May involve transferring participants from wheelchairs

    \n

    ·        Good vision and hearing to monitor participants, observe behavioral clues, and ensure safe environment

    \n

    ·        Ability to clearly communicate with participants, families, and team members both verbally and in writing.

    \n

    ·        Ability to work with potential bodily fluids or challenging behaviors

    \n

    ·        Tolerance to high stress environment or emotionally charged situations

    \n
