    A Direct Support Specialist (DSS) is a highly experienced individual who has an extensive background working with I/DD individuals, including following Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP) and implementing protocols. They support individuals to succeed in their life skills, independence, community integration, and much more! They assist the individual in accomplishing their goals as outlined in their Individual Support Plan (ISP). If you are looking for a career path, then DSP Connections is for you!

     

     Pay scale: Starting rate of $27 an hour with a fast track to $30 an hour.

    This role is based in Salem, OR. 

    Schedule (Full Time):

    • Looking to fill a position between the hours of 6:00am-10:00pm (varies depending on day).
    • Weekend availability is required.
    • Must be flexible with what days of the week you work and willing/able to stay if there are call outs.
    • Schedules vary and may include 12-hour shifts, days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

     

     Qualifications: 

    • Minimum 2 years’ experience supporting individuals in the I/DD community.
    • Oregon Intervention System (OIS) training (will provide class opportunities).
    • CPR/First aid training within 30 days of hire (will provide class opportunities).
    • Reliable transportation to/from work.
    • Ability to follow a complex Positive Behavior Support Plan.
    • Applicants should be comfortable working with individuals who may display aggressive, self-injurious, or other challenging behaviors.
    • Ability to work within a team of Direct Support staff.
    • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and clean driving record. A motor vehicle report will be run on all DSSs who transport clients in a company vehicle.
    • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, stand, twist, or reach.
    • Ability to walk and/or stand for the majority of each shift.
    • Ability to remain calm during crisis situations.
