Job Description

Department: Admissions & Records

General Statement of Job

The Admissions Technician interacts directly with students and performs duties pertaining to admission requirements and enrollment. Provides assistance with events held in the Enrollment Center.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Provides a positive, friendly, knowledgeable impression of the College; assists students with information for successful college entrance.
  • Greets students, staff and visitors at the enrollment center; refers them to proper personnel for further action.
  • Provides assistance with high school enrollment events.
  • Assists with processing, scanning and indexing incoming documents.
  • Assists students with online registration.
  • Assists with admissions and records reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

To qualify, one of the following must be met:
  • College Certificate
  • A minimum of 30 earned college hours
  • High School Diploma/GED and eight (8) years of relevant experience
At least one (1) year of customer service or similar experience, preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse, multi-cultural student population.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply practical understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
