Job Description

General Statement of Job

The Customer Service Technician - Educational Technologies communicates clearly and respectfully, consistently showing a friendly, approachable attitude and a solid understanding of departmental services and procedures. Works closely with Educational Technologies staff to assist with daily department operations.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
  • Performs clerical tasks such as answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, typing and word processing, and delivering equipment.
  • Interacts with the public and positively delivers excellent customer service.
  • Maintains regular and accurate records using required software and forms, and submits the necessary paperwork promptly.
  • Assists with tracking equipment managed by the department.
  • Assists EdTech staff in troubleshooting and making minor adjustments to classroom technology and AV equipment.
  • Assists in maintenance and performance checks of departmental technology equipment.
  • Assists with scheduling checkouts and set-ups of AV equipment.
  • Assists EdTech staff in supporting faculty, staff, and students with instructional and AV equipment.
  • Assists EdTech staff with campus events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
  • College Certificate or a minimum of 30 earned college hours required.
  • At least six (6) months of customer service experience, preferred.
  • Experience in a higher education institution using enterprise systems; e.g. Banner, preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player within the department and with others.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, write short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply practical understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
