JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Directional Drill Operator/locator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating directional drilling equipment to install underground utilities, such as telecommunications, electrical, or water lines. The Directional Drill Operator will work closely with the project team to ensure precise and accurate drilling, minimizing environmental impact and avoiding existing underground infrastructure. This role requires a strong understanding of directional drilling techniques, equipment maintenance, and the ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities:
- Operate directional drilling equipment to create bore paths for the installation of underground utilities.
- Collaborate with superintendent, project managers and surveyors to determine the appropriate drilling locations.
- Ensure the accuracy and precision of drilling operations, avoiding obstructions and existing utilities.
- Perform routine maintenance on drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that may arise during drilling operations.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Communicate effectively with team members and project stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Directional Drill Operator/Locator or similar role.
- Knowledge of directional drilling techniques and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and maps.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform drilling operations in various conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and protocols related to directional drilling.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in directional drilling are a plus.
- Valid CDL driver’s license with a clean driving record or ability to get one within 90 days.
- Must be willing to perform all work on jobsite as needed. This may include; Hydro Vac, Using a shovel, Excavator, Skid steer.
