Director, Accounts Receivable

Position overview:

The Director of Accounts Receivable (AR) is responsible for leading and optimizing all aspects of the organization’s receivables function, including billing, collections, cash application, and credit management. This role ensures timely and accurate invoicing, maximizes cash flow, minimizes bad debt risk, and drives continuous process improvements. The Director partners closely with Finance, Sales, and Operations to support business objectives while maintaining strong internal controls and compliance.

A typical day in the life of an AR Leader:

Leadership & Strategy

• Lead, develop, and mentor the Accounts Receivable (AR) team, fostering a high-performance and accountable culture.
• Establish and execute AR strategies aligned with organizational financial goals.
• Define KPIs (e.g., DSO, aging, collection effectiveness) and drive performance against targets.
• Partner with executive leadership on cash flow forecasting and working capital optimization.

Billing & Invoicing

• Oversee accurate and timely billing processes across all business units.
• Ensure alignment between contracts, pricing, and invoicing.
• Implement controls to reduce billing errors and disputes.

Collections & Cash Application

• Direct collection strategies to improve cash flow and reduce delinquency.
• Monitor aging reports and proactively address past-due accounts.
• Oversee cash application processes to ensure timely and accurate posting.

Credit & Risk Management

• Establish and maintain credit policies, limits, and approval processes.
• Evaluate customer creditworthiness and manage risk exposure.
• Lead efforts to reduce bad debt and improve write-off recovery.

Process Improvement & Systems

• Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
• Optimize AR systems (ERP, billing platforms, collections tools).
• Ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Sales and Customer Service to resolve disputes and improve customer experience.
• Work with Legal on escalated collections and contract interpretation.
• Collaborate with Accounting on month-end close, reconciliations, and audit support.

Compliance & Controls

• Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain strong internal controls over receivables and revenue processes.
• Support internal and external audits.

The skills you’ll contribute to our diverse team:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 8–12+ years of progressive experience in Accounts Receivable, Credit, or Order-to-Cash functions.
• 3–5+ years of leadership experience managing teams.
• Strong knowledge of AR processes, credit risk, and collections strategies.
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
• Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.

Preferred

• CPA, CMA, or MBA.
• Experience in a multi-entity or high-volume transaction environment.
• Experience leading system implementations or process transformations.

The pay range for this bonus-eligible role is $120,000 - $140,000 per year. Individual pay depends on various factors, such as role level, relevant experience and skills, and location. Pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the pay range applicable at the time.
