    Job Requirements

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The System Director, Acute Care Medical Services oversees and leads the strategic, operational, financial, and performance oversight of Health First's Hospital Division, acute care medicine programs, including Adult Hospital Medicine, Infectious Disease, Psychiatry, Critical Care Medicine, and the VitalWatch Electronic Intensive Care Unit (eICU) program. The System Director, Acute Care Medicine provides administrative leadership across multiple physician and advanced practice provider (APP) service lines operating Health First's Integrated Delivery Network (IDN).

    The System Director, Acute Care Medicine partners closely with Chief Medical Officers, Medical Directors, physician leaders, operational executives, nursing leadership, and Quality teams to develop and sustain a high-performing acute care medicine infrastructure that delivers exceptional patient outcomes, provider engagement, operational efficiency, patient throughput, and fiscal stewardship. The System Director, Acute Care Medicine directs the designing and implementation of evidence-based operational strategies, physician engagement initiatives, workforce optimization plans, and quality improvement programs that support Health First's mission and strategic priorities. The System Director, Acute Care Medicine has visible leadership across multiple 24/7 physician service lines and collaboration with interdisciplinary stakeholders to improve care coordination, patient safety, standardization, and access across the continuum of inpatient care.

    PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Leads strategic and operational oversight of Adult Hospital Medicine, Infectious Disease, Psychiatry, Critical Care Medicine, Critical Care APP, and VitalWatch eICU programs across the Health First system. Oversees daily operations of acute care medicine programs including staffing models, physician schedules, coverage plans, and operational workflows.
    • Partners with physician and executive leadership to develop and execute acute care medicine strategies aligned with organizational goals, quality priorities, and growth initiatives.
    • Develops and maintains high-performing physician and APP operational structures that support patient safety, provider engagement, and clinical excellence; supports physician recruitment, onboarding, orientation, retention, and engagement initiatives for acute care medicine programs.
    • Collaborates with hospital and physician leadership to improve patient throughput, length of stay, discharge efficiency, and care coordination across the continuum of inpatient care.
    • Establishes operational performance metrics and accountability structures for acute care medicine services including quality, utilization, patient experience, and financial performance indicators; monitors, analyzes, and presents operational, clinical, and financial performance data to executive and physician leadership teams.
    • Directs operational improvement initiatives utilizing evidence-based methodologies, Lean principles, and workflow optimization strategies.
    • Provides oversight for the operational components of the VitalWatch eICU program including remote monitoring workflows, escalation processes, technology optimization, and interdisciplinary collaboration; participates in strategic planning related to telemedicine expansion, critical care integration, workforce planning, and hospital-based physician services.
    • Works with Medical Directors and physician leaders to address operational challenges, provider performance concerns, and service line development opportunities.
    • Collaborates with nursing, case management, quality, IT, and executive leadership teams to improve interdisciplinary communication and operational alignment.
    • Supports implementation and standardization of evidence-based clinical pathways, operational best practices, and care delivery models across all facilities; facilitates regular operational meetings with physician and executive stakeholders to review performance metrics, operational priorities, and improvement initiatives.
    • Maintains operational readiness and compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and patient safety initiatives.
    • Serves as an administrative liaison between physician leaders, hospital executives, and operational departments to promote collaboration and alignment; develops and maintains positive working relationships with physicians, APPs, operational leaders, and interdisciplinary care teams across the organization.

    Work Experience

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Bachelor's degree in Business or Healthcare Administration, Nursing (BSN), Finance, or a relevant field.

    Work Experience: Five (5) years' progressive healthcare leadership experience.

    Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

    • Exceptional leadership and influencing skills with demonstrated operational and quality outcome achievement.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to engage physicians, APPs, executives, and operational leaders.
    • Demonstrated strategic planning and operational execution capabilities.
    • Ability to analyze operational, financial, and clinical performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
    • Knowledge of healthcare operations, hospital throughput, quality metrics, physician practice management, and acute care workflows.
    • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in complex healthcare environments.
    • Strong financial management, budgeting, and operational forecasting skills.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Education: Master's degree in Business or Healthcare Administration (MBA/MHA), Nursing (BSN), Public Health (MPH), Finance, or a relevant field.
    • Work Experience:
    • Prior experience leading hospital-based physician services, acute care operations, critical care, telemedicine, or provider operations.
    • Experience working within a multi-hospital integrated delivery network.
    • Licensure: Applicable clinical licensure.
    • Certification: LEAN Six Sigma, healthcare leadership, or operation certification.
    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Working knowledge of telemedicine, critical care operations, and hospital-based care delivery models.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, and stooping.
    • Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
    • Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
    • May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
    • Communicating with others to exchange information.
    • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
    • Workspace may vary from open to confined.
    • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
