Auburn University Advancement seeks candidates for the position of Director, Advancement Information Technology. This individual provides overall vision, leadership, and management of all IT functions in OIT, college, school, or other major unit (e.g. library, finance) in support of instruction, research, outreach, and administrative needs. This includes planning, sourcing, and support of information technology as defined by the overall IT strategy of the University (Office of the CIO) and the unit. This position works per the direction of the unit's senior leadership team. Consults with senior leadership to understand needs that can be supported through technology, and recommends appropriate technology strategies. Makes IT budget recommendations for the unit. Oversees procurement and selection of information technology resources. Recommends policies and procedures for information technology and services within the unit.

Responsibilities:
  • Leads a team of professionals who deliver IT services throughout Advancement. Provides direction and support to the team, ensuring a comprehensive suite of technology support for Advancement.
  • Works collaboratively with Advancement to initiate, develop, and apply tech-enabled strategies to support Auburn Advancement’s objectives.
  • Partners closely with Auburn’s central OIT administration and departments to ensure compliance with and adoption of AU technology initiatives.
  • Ensures technology services are planned and delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner, supporting business requirements, with a customer-service mindset, in alignment with organizational direction.
  • Works in close collaboration with the Advancement Business Systems team to provide all aspects of technology support for the Advancement CRM related integrations and tools.
  • Serves as the Information Security Officer of the Auburn University Foundation and therefore supervises the Foundation Information Security Manager role. This position provides oversight collaboratively to encompass all AU Foundation data security measures and ensure modern, efficient, and effective information security practices across Advancement.
  • In support of the Advancement IT team, provides oversight to all security-related efforts including penetration testing, firewall and related infrastructure management, and network traffic analysis; prioritizes mitigation strategies and communicates to leaders and stakeholders appropriately.
  • Provides support for the annual AU Foundation audit for information security.
  • Develops and maintains an understanding of Advancement initiatives, functions, and activities so as to provide the best support for Advancement technology initiatives.
  • Oversees the IT project management function. Establishes efficient project management standards to optimize project resources, improve quality, and reduce risk.
  • Leads by example in fostering digital transformation, encouraging and adopting modern business processes, setting elevated standards, and evolving technology support for Advancement.
  • Develops and evolves an accessible cloud strategy to support Advancement teamwork.
  • Effectively communicates to all stakeholders on technology updates, including through change management initiatives.
  • Actively aware of trends in technology, particularly as they may support Advancement initiatives.
  • Effectively manages information technology-related budgets.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in no specific discipline. 
  • 7 years of expert level experience in one or more IT specialties to include Infrastructure Operations and Planning, Academic & Research Computing Support, or IT Service Support.
  • Five or more years of experience in IT management (direct supervision of full-time employees), project planning and the budgeting process; experience developing support strategies for IT service to users in small to mid-sized unit.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of information technology principles and applications, computer system management methodologies, information security principles, and new technologies.
  • Knowledge of technical management, information analysis, and company hardware systems
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resources allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles.
  • Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
