POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Campus Police serves as the University's chief public safety administrator and primary law enforcement representative. This position is responsible for overseeing all campus public safety operations, coordinating law enforcement services provided through the Denmark Police Department, supervising contracted security personnel, and ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Director works collaboratively with the Vice President for Student Affairs, university administrators, local law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and community partners to support institutional safety initiatives, emergency preparedness, crime prevention efforts, and student well-being. The position oversees daily security operations, incident response, emergency management, parking enforcement, access control, Clery Act compliance, and campus safety education programs. Duties include planning, supervising, and coordinating safety and security operations on a 24-hour basis; provides regular reports regarding campus safety, security operations, and law enforcement activities to the Vice President for Student Affairs. The Director reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs and serves as the primary liaison between Voorhees University and the Denmark Police Department. Position: Director, Campus Police Division: Student Affairs Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 FLSA Classification: Salaried, Exempt Position Type/Duration: Full Time/12 months Position Schedule: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday (evenings and weekends required) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Serves as liaison to the Denmark Police Department. Oversee all contracted campus security personnel and vendors. Coordinates criminal investigations with Denmark Police Department and other law enforcement agencies as needed. Ensures compliance with the Clery Act and other federal reporting requirements. Chairs or serves on the University's Behavioral Intervention Team and Threat Assessment Team. Coordinates security staffing for major campus events. Develop campus safety policies and procedures. Provides crime prevention and safety education programs for students and employees. Oversee the University's comprehensive public safety program, including patrol operations, emergency response, crime prevention initiatives, and risk management. Enforces applicable federal, state, and local laws and refers potential violations of the Student Code of Conduct to the Office of Student Affairs for review and adjudication. Reviews, investigates, and approves incident reports; provides factual information regarding alleged student misconduct to the Office of Student Affairs and maintains all required federal, state, and institutional reporting records. Serves as the university's emergency response coordinator and is responsible for enacting the University's emergency response and evacuation plan in fire incidents, bomb threats, hazardous materials incidents, natural disasters, inclement weather, infrastructure failures, and acts of terror. Serves as the representative for the university in charge of the scene in these incidents. Provides recommendations to the President's Cabinet regarding campus closures, emergency operations, and continuity measures. Also serves as the University's official contact with community fire departments and law enforcement agencies in these incidents and keeps the President's Administration apprised of the situations. Directs and administers all programs relating to the registration of automobiles used regularly on the campus, the control of campus traffic, and the enforcement of campus parking regulations. Provides training for faculty and other staff on safety and security-related issues. Provides information to students, faculty, staff, and the general public regarding security issues. Coordinates access of campus buildings and classrooms. Performs all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical effort requires Walking, stooping and bending and occasional running and/or standing, Intervening with physical altercations/fights, etc.; Occasional lifting of lightweight objects (up to 25 pounds); Assist in restraining, handling or lifting individuals (from adolescents to adults); Discomfort from exposure to less-than-optimal temperatures and air conditions, including outdoor activities; May deal with unpleasant situations, involving fights, weapons, potential incendiary devices, and hazardous materials; Occasional exposure to dust and fumes Frequent operation of a vehicle. EDUCATION Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, or related field. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS South Carolina Class I Law Enforcement Certification required. Minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or command-level role. Experience working with contracted security services, preferred. Knowledge of higher education environments, student development principles, Clery Act requirements, and emergency management practices preferred.
