Definition
Under the general direction of the Vice President of Administrative Services, the Director of Safety and Security plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and evaluates the comprehensive safety and security program for the Gavilan Community College District. The Director provides senior leadership for all campus security operations, emergency preparedness, security systems administration, and personnel safety across all district sites. This positionis responsible forestablishingand advancing a professional, proactive, and data-informed security program that supports the districts mission and ensures a safe and welcoming learning environment.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a single-position director-level classification with full management accountability for the districts safety and security functions. Unlike a supervisory classification, the Director exercises broad administrative authority over strategic planning, policy development, budget management, staffing, and inter-agency coordination. The Director serves as the districts primary subject matter expert for all physical security, emergency management, and public safety matters.

Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience
Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Emergency Management, PublicAdministration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in security management, law enforcement, ora directly relatedfield, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management capacity
Demonstrated experience with physical security systems administration, including access control and video management systems

The district provides an excellent benefits package for full-time employees. The district also offers a Section 125 program that allows participation in pre-tax reimbursable medical and dependent care cost programs. Additionally, the district offers a 1% matching contribution to CalPERS 457 deferred compensation program to enhance your retirement options.
Part-time employees who work an average of 25 hours per week over the course of a year, may choose to receive benefits on a pro-rated basis.
