The Opportunity
The Texas Medical Center is the largest medical complex in the world and its greatest untapped asset is the collective expertise of its clinical community. For years, TMC Innovation has drawn on a group of clinical advisors to support our founders and programs. That community has proven its value many times over, but the demand from our growing innovation ecosystem has outpaced what an informal, relationship-dependent model can sustain.
We're looking for a leader to take our clinical advisory network (the curated community of physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, clinical research professionals and other clinical experts who lend their insight to founders and start ups) and grow it into a more robust, far-reaching, and lasting resource.
You'll own this network end to end: deepening the relationships we already have, expanding into the specialties and disciplines we'll need next, and shaping the whole into a defining resource for healthcare innovation. This is the role that takes a proven idea and builds it into a lasting platform.
What You'll Own
Network growth & clinical relationships
- Steward and deepen our existing advisor relationships while recruiting new clinical experts across the full range of disciplines, including physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, clinical research professionals, and other specialists, and across TMC's institutions and departments.
- Serve as the primary relationship owner and the front-facing ambassador for the advisory network, building the trust that makes leading experts want to participate and stay engaged.
- Understand each advisor's expertise, interests, and the ways they're best positioned to contribute, from clinical and frontline-workflow feedback, to championing pilots, to supporting early-stage and first-in-human research pathways.
- Evolve how advisors engage, moving from informal, ad hoc participation toward models that create genuine, mutual value for both advisors and the founders they support.
Growing the platform & ecosystem reach
- Expand how the network serves the broader TMC ecosystem including accelerator companies, the TMC Venture Fund, and partners, so that more founders can tap world-class clinical expertise.
- Represent TMC Innovation with hospital and health-system leadership, clinical departments, sponsors, and external partners wherever clinical insight is the critical value driver.
- Help shape the network's external identity and long-term model as it matures from an internal capability into a recognized platform.
Strengthening the way it works
- Build the structure our current model lacks: a robust, repeatable approach to connecting the right advisor with the right company at the right moment.
- Partner with product and operations colleagues on the tools and processes that make the network efficient and scalable.
- Raise the consistency and quality of advisor engagements, and coach founders on how to get the most from clinical advisors.
- Coordinate with program leads to anticipate clinical needs across accelerator cohorts, venture diligence, and clinical studies, ensuring continuity across long-running initiatives.
Insight & network health
- Track engagement and identify where the network needs to grow, surfacing coverage gaps and emerging areas of demand.
- Build the institutional knowledge that makes the network smarter over time and informs future innovation and portfolio decisions.
- Provide leadership with clear, regular readouts on the network's reach, health, and impact.
In Your First Year
You'll take a valued but informal capability and make it robust, formalizing the relationships and processes, closing the gaps where demand has outrun capacity, and building the foundation that lets the network serve the ecosystem far more broadly in the years that follow.
Who You Are
- A trusted relationship-builder with senior clinical professionals and executives, energized by being the face of a high-profile, growing effort.
- A business-development and platform mindset, focused on reach, value, and growth, not just coordination.
- Able to honor what works informally and bring it new structure and scale, without losing what made it special.
- Fluent in how academic medical centers operate and how clinical professionals balance clinical, research, and outside commitments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a business, scientific, clinical, or healthcare-related field.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in business development, partnerships, account management, or relationship-driven roles, including direct engagement with clinical professionals or healthcare executives.
- Demonstrated track record of building and maintaining trusted senior-level relationships and translating them into results.
- Working knowledge of the healthcare, academic medical center, or life-sciences landscape.
- Experience leading initiatives or teams in an environment with evolving priorities and limited existing structure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MBA, MPH, MS, MD, RN, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent clinical/scientific training).
- Experience in healthcare innovation, startups, venture capital, or technology commercialization.
- Familiarity with translational research, clinical trials, or first-in-human / early-feasibility study pathways.
- Prior experience designing or scaling a network, platform, advisory program, or similar relationship-based offering.
- People-management experience and a history of partnering with product or operations teams to build scalable processes.
