Job Summary:
The Director of Clinical Services is responsible for the strategic leadership, coordination, management, and oversight of clinical education requirements and experiential learning placements for students within the College of Health Professions & Wellness. The Director serves as the primary liaison between the College and healthcare, educational, community, and public health agencies to ensure students have access to high-quality clinical learning experiences that meet accreditation, regulatory, and curricular requirements.
The Director provides leadership and support for undergraduate and graduate health professions programs, including Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, Respiratory Therapy, Athletic Training, Speech-Language Pathology, Public Health, and other programs requiring clinical, practicum, internship, fieldwork, or experiential education placements. Responsibilities include oversight of clinical placements, clinical contracts and affiliation agreements, student and faculty compliance requirements, agency partnerships, orientations, standardized testing, and data reporting.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Clinical Placement Leadership and Coordination
Direct and oversee clinical, practicum, internship, and fieldwork placements across the College of Health Professions & Wellness.
Manage clinical placement processes for prelicensure nursing students, including senior practicum experiences.
Coordinate placement support for graduate nursing, respiratory therapy, athletic training, speech-language pathology, public health, and other health professions programs.
Collaborate with department heads, program directors, faculty, and clinical agencies to identify, secure, and maintain appropriate clinical learning opportunities.
Monitor clinical placement capacity and develop strategies to maximize student access to experiential learning opportunities.
Maintain accurate records of clinical assignments and placement activities.
Clinical Contracts and Affiliation Agreements
Initiate, negotiate, coordinate, and monitor new clinical affiliation agreements and contracts.
Review clinical contracts to ensure compliance with institutional, accreditation, legal, and agency requirements.
Collaborate with university administration, procurement, legal counsel, and clinical partners regarding contract development and renewal.
Maintain a comprehensive database of active, pending, and expiring clinical agreements.
Monitor contract renewal timelines and facilitate updates as needed.
Clinical Compliance Management
Oversee and manage student clinical compliance requirements, including but not limited to:
Immunizations and health records
Background checks
Drug screenings
CPR certification
HIPAA training
OSHA training
Agency-specific requirements
Coordinate the scheduling, verification, and tracking of student drug screenings and background checks in accordance with university and agency requirements.
Ensure students meet all compliance requirements before participating in clinical, practicum, internship, or field experiences.
Maintain confidential student compliance records in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA, university policies, and clinical agency standards.
Monitor compliance deadlines and communicate requirements to students, faculty, and clinical partners.
Agency and Community Partnership Development
Serve as the primary contact for healthcare organizations, clinical agencies, schools, public health organizations, and community partners.
Establish and maintain strong partnerships that support student clinical education opportunities.
Identify and develop new clinical affiliations to address program growth and workforce development needs.
Collaborate with agency representatives to resolve placement challenges and promote successful student experiences.
Student and Clinical Orientation Activities
Plan, coordinate, and conduct clinical orientation programs for students.
Coordinate onboarding requirements and agency-specific orientation activities.
Prepare and distribute orientation materials, compliance instructions, policies, and clinical placement information.
Promote student understanding of professional expectations and clinical standards.
Standardized Testing and Assessment Coordination
Coordinate standardized testing activities across health professions programs.
Schedule testing sessions and maintain testing logistics.
Collect, analyze, and maintain testing data and assessment records.
Report testing results to faculty, program directors, administrators, and other authorized stakeholders.
Assist with accreditation reporting and assessment activities utilizing standardized testing outcomes.
Data Management, Reporting, and Accreditation Support
Maintain accurate databases and records related to clinical placements, contracts, compliance requirements, and assessment outcomes.
Generate reports for department heads, program directors, accrediting bodies, and college administration.
Assist academic programs in preparing accreditation documentation related to clinical education and experiential learning.
Monitor trends related to placement utilization, compliance rates, testing performance, and clinical partner engagement.
Develop reports and dashboards that support data-informed decision-making.
Administrative Leadership
Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures related to clinical education and student placements.
Provide leadership and guidance regarding clinical operations throughout the College.
Participate in college and university committees related to clinical education, student success, accreditation, and workforce development.
Assist with strategic planning initiatives related to clinical partnerships and experiential learning.
Performs other duties as assigned.
