What You'll Do

As Director of College HVAC Services, you will lead the strategy, operations, and continuous improvement of HVAC systems across all Dallas College locations.

• Lead College-wide HVAC operations, maintenance, and asset management to ensure reliable, efficient, and sustainable building performance.
• Oversee preventive maintenance programs, capital improvements, and long-term HVAC system planning.
• Manage and develop a multi-campus team of supervisors, technicians, and contractors while driving operational excellence and customer service.
• Direct departmental budgets, vendor partnerships, and large-scale HVAC projects.
• Collaborate with campus stakeholders to advance energy efficiency, sustainability, and facilities optimization initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements across all HVAC operations.

Position / Job Summary

The Dallas College Facilities Management Department supports the facility needs for Dallas College while providing responsible stewardship and efficient operation of the College's physical assets. The Facilities Management Department is responsible for approximately 5,500,000 sq. ft. of physical space and over 1400 acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County. The position of Director - College HVAC Services supports this effort through strategic leadership, operational oversight, and continuous improvement of all HVAC systems and services across the College.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight and leadership for all HVAC operations across Dallas College locations, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and system performance.
• Establish and direct the College-wide HVAC preventive maintenance and asset management programs, ensuring compliance with standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee HVAC capital planning, lifecycle replacement strategies, and major system upgrades, aligning priorities with institutional goals and available funding.
• Lead and develop a multi-campus HVAC organization, including supervisors, technicians, and contractors, ensuring staffing models support operational demands and service expectations.
• Exercise full discretion and decision-making authority in the recruitment, selection, hiring, mentoring, coaching, development, and termination of staff, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and workforce planning strategies.
• Drive operational excellence through performance management, establishing key performance indicators (KPIs), and implementing initiatives that improve system uptime, energy efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
• Manage departmental budgets, including operating and capital expenditures, ensuring fiscal accountability and cost-effective service delivery.
• Collaborate with Facilities leadership, Energy Management, and campus stakeholders to support sustainability initiatives, energy efficiency programs, and system optimization efforts.
• Establish standards for HVAC design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance across all projects and campuses.
• Oversee vendor performance and contracts related to HVAC services, ensuring adherence to scope, quality, and safety expectations.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, environmental standards, and institutional policies, promoting a culture of safety across all operations.
• Will require travel within Dallas County utilizing College vehicles.
• Complete the required Dallas College Professional Development Hours per Academic Year:

o All employees must complete a minimum of 19 hours annually.

o People leaders must complete an additional 16 hours of leadership development annually.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Preferred - Education, Experience, and/or Certifications

Required Qualifications for Role (necessary or mandatory)

• Ten (10+) years of progressive experience in commercial HVAC systems, including large central plant operations (chillers, boilers, cooling towers).
• Minimum Three (3) years of leadership experience managing multi-site HVAC or facilities operations teams.
• Demonstrated experience in capital planning, budgeting, and large-scale system replacements or upgrades.
• Valid Texas driver's license.

Other Preferred Qualifications for Role (not mandatory, but advantageous)

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field
• Experience managing building automation systems (BAS) and energy management programs in a large institutional setting.
• EPA Certification preferred.
• Experience in higher education, healthcare, or large campus environments.
• Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required Qualifications for Role

• Advanced knowledge of large-scale HVAC systems, including chilled water plants, hot water systems, air handling systems, and distribution networks.
• Strong understanding of HVAC controls systems, including DDC platforms, system integration, and optimization strategies.
• Ability to analyze complex mechanical system data (temperatures, pressures, flow rates, electrical metrics) to ensure proper system operation and efficiency.
• Demonstrated leadership ability to manage large, diverse teams across multiple locations, including performance management and workforce development.
• Ability to develop and implement long-term operational and capital strategies aligned with organizational goals.
• Strong financial acumen, including budget development, forecasting, and cost control.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all organizational levels.
• Ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement best practices in facilities operations.
• Ability to utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to oversee work order management, asset tracking, and performance reporting.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, including the ability to respond effectively under operational pressure.
• Ability to ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain the integrity and security of critical infrastructure systems across Dallas College.
