About Us:
The Caturus platform was founded by Kimmeridge, an alternative asset manager focused on the energy sector, with subsequent additional investment by Mubadala Energy.  Caturus is building an independent, fully integrated natural gas and LNG export platform in the U.S. through a combination of its upstream operations and Commonwealth LNG, a 9.5 Mtpa LNG export terminal in southwestern Louisiana.  Together, they will provide low-cost energy on demand with the lowest carbon footprint.

Job Description


Position Summary:
The Commissioning Director will work with CWLNGs EPC contractor to participate in the commissioning process, ensuring all systems, equipment, and processes are tested, validated, and ready for safe, efficient operation. The role will also include participating in the EPC contractors pre-commissioning activities at the fabrication yards, critical vendors, and at the site. This role requires expertise in project management, multi discipline engineering, regulatory compliance, operational process safety and cross-functional collaboration to deliver a seamless transition from construction to operational readiness. This role provides strategic and tactical leadership across EPC, Engineering, Construction, HSSE, Maintenance, and Operations to achieve flawless startup.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Ensure EPC contractor is in compliance with the contract and scopes of work
  • Working with the EPC contractor to review and agree on the planning, execution, and coordination of commissioning activities across all facility systems (process, electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, etc.).
  • Ensure a detailed commissioning plan, including schedules, milestones, and risk mitigation strategies is developed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., FERC Order, OSHA, EPA, DOT, and Louisiana environmental codes).
  • CWLNG participation in the pre-commissioning activities (e.g., system isolation, line purging, hydrostatic testing) and functional testing of critical equipment to ensure a clean and complete system is handed over to the commissioning team.
  • Validate process flows, control systems, and safety interlocks to ensure operational readiness.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, operations, and third-party vendors to resolve technical challenges and align timelines.
  • Interface with regulatory team, contractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth handover to operations.
  • Ensure the training programs for operators and maintenance staff on commissioning procedures, system operation, and safety protocols is completed by the EPC contractor.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities, test results, and lessons learned are documented for future reference.
  • Monitor project budgets, resource allocation, and schedule adherence to ensure timely completion of commissioning tasks.
  • Lead risk assessments and mitigation activities associated with commissioning, integrating lessons learned and reliability considerations.
  • Ensure the performance tests are completed as per contract and results are validated.

Qualifications: 

Education, Certificates, and Licenses:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or higher is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Experience:
  • 15+ years of experience in commissioning roles within oil and gas, LNG experience preferred.
  • 5+ years in commissioning leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading commissioning and startup of large‑scale process facilities (preferably LNG trains, utilities, and marine systems).
  • Strong background in EPC execution, including construction turnover, interface management, and PSSR processes with an owner team.
  • Experience implementing digital operational readiness tools.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage high-pressure deadlines, and resolve complex technical issues.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety as a core value, leading by example through adherence to all safety protocols and fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote safe work practices through regular training, near-miss reporting systems, and behavioral safety programs to ensure all team members prioritize safety in every task
  • Deep knowledge of process systems, rotating equipment, utilities, instrumentation, DCS, and mechanical completion processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of CFR 193, OSHA, API, HAZOP and LNG industry standards.
  • Ability to lead technical reviews, resolve complex issues, and guide troubleshooting during startup.
  • Skilled communicator able to align engineering, construction, operations, vendors, and executive leadership.
  • Strong decision-making capability under pressure in dynamic site environments, ability to stay “calm” in the “fog of war”.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of organization, follow‑through, and commitment to safety and quality.
