Director Director of Elementary Special Education

Job Description:

Hartford Public Schools is seeking an experienced special education leader to serve as Director of Elementary Special Education, overseeing programs, services, and personnel across our 39 elementary schools. Reporting to the Executive Director of Special Education, this Director will drive compliance, program improvement, and inclusive practices that support outstanding outcomes for students with disabilities.

What youll do: Lead elementary special education programming districtwide, ensure IEP and compliance excellence, guide professional learning initiatives, and represent the department in legal and dispute-resolution matters.

What you bring: An advanced degree in special education, 5+ years of successful experience in special education settings, CT Intermediate Administrative Certification (092), and CT Special Education Certification (165). Experience with CT-SEDS and a strong orientation toward urban school systems preferred.

Compensation: $149,609-$162,873 (HPSA Group 12, 2026-2027 schedule), plus tuition reimbursement, residency differential, and a comprehensive benefits package.
