DIRECTOR OF FOOD, NUTRITION AND WELLNESS SERVICES

Per the union, this job is to be posted internally and externally simultaneously. Preference will be given to UPSEU members per the contract.

SALARY RANGE: $44.42 - $65.78 per hour

SALARY GRADE: UPSEU GRADE 17 (Exempt / Salaried - not eligible for overtime)

LOCATION: BOE Central Office/District

HOURS OF WORK: (Monday - Friday) 40 hours per week (52 Weeks)

Basic Purpose of the Job

This position is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, compliance, fiscal management, and strategic direction of the

district's Child Nutrition Programs. The Director of Food, Nutrition and Wellness Services ensures that school meals are nutritious,

safe, appealing, financially responsible, and compliant with federal, state, local, and district requirements. The Director provides

leadership to food service personnel, supports district wellness initiatives, advances farm-to-school and sustainability efforts, and

builds strong relationships with students, families, staff, administrators, vendors, regulatory agencies, and community partners.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Education

  • Associate's degree or higher in Food and Nutrition, Institutional Management,
  • Business Administration, or related field required, or any combination of education
  • and experience that satisfies USDA Professional Standards for a district with student
  • enrollment between 2,500 and 9,999 (Required). A bachelor's degree in nutrition,
  • dietetics, food service management, business, or related field (preferred).

Minimum Work Experience

  • At least two years of school nutrition experience in a supervisory or higher-level
  • capacity required. A minimum of five years of K-12 food service management
  • experience in a district with more than 2,500 students preferred, with emphasis on
  • menu planning, procurement, staff training and supervision, USDA Child Nutrition
  • Program compliance, and sustainable food service operations.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid Connecticut Driver's License required.
  • Valid Food Safety Manager Certificate required.
  • School Nutrition Specialist certification, preferred
  • Certified Dietary Manager certification, preferred

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of food service operations, menu planning, procurement, inventory, production, sanitation, food safety, and employee safety required.
  • Knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Program standards, including meal pattern requirements and program accountability requirements, required.
  • Ability and experience managing a large budget and staff.
  • Knowledge of sustainable food preparation, farm-to-school practices, recipes, menus, and local food procurement preferred.
  • Knowledge of K-12 food service software systems, point-of-sale systems, operating application management, and back-office management systems required.
  • Ability to prepare, administer, and monitor budgets, reports, claims, procurement records, and financial accountability systems required.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, train, evaluate, and support food service personnel required.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, professional development, performance standards, and operational systems required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, families, staff, administrators, vendors, regulatory agencies, and community partners required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse community partnerships and district stakeholders required.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and simultaneously supervise a variety of tasks required.
  • Ability to support district goals, wellness initiatives, and Board of Education policies required.
