Job Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Director of Emergency Management leads the Case Western Reserve University response to matters of safety, preparedness and organizational resilience processes. This includes assisting the university in adjusting to ongoing transformations. The director will develop and manage operational activities and initiatives of organizational resiliency, designing and implementing business processes for enhanced operational resiliency, and will serve as a principle responder and subject matter expert for disaster and emergency response -including preliminary and ongoing assessments of campus readiness and ongoing evaluation of response, emerging needs, best practices, and opportunities for improvement. To achieve these goals this position takes a comprehensive and strategic approach to matters ranging from health and safety of the campus community as well as processes and preservation related to maintaining the universitys operations in times of crisis. The director is responsible for development, planning, direction and administration of the universitys organizational resilience, emergency management, and business continuity.

CONTACTS
Department: Regular contact with supervisors and staff regarding emergency management operations.
University: Contact with senior staff, university administrators, faculty and staff to provide consultation and planning information. Contact with university staff with potential involvement in emergency response, provide training, readiness initiatives, and recovery.
External: Contact with local, state, and federal emergency response agencies to coordinate response plans.
Student: Contact with university students to provide safety information and student organizations as appropriate.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise 2 direct professional staff reports, student employees and interns. Also has direct responsibility for the execution of emergency response training exercises.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience/Licensing: Masters degree in Emergency Management or related field and 5 years incident management experience, emergency management and public safety experience, OR Bachelors degree in Emergency Management or related field and 7 years of incident management experience, emergency management and public safety experience required. Must possess training certificates in ICS, NIMS and the FEMA series or related certificates. Possess a valid Ohio Operators license with no significant violations. Pass a thorough background investigation including criminal history and psychological screening. Must be able to receive LEADS certification upon hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS
General office environment. The employee will operate a university vehicle while on the job. May be required to work extended hours based on situational and staffing needs.
