We are seeking a seasoned Director with at least five years of experience in conducting commercial due diligence to support private equity and corporate mergers and acquisitions. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of energy markets, the broader energy value chain, and a honed ability to translate complex market and operational data into actionable investment insights for investment decision makers.

This role requires deep analytical expertise, proficiency in Excel and SQL, and significant experience working with energy market data, commodity pricing, and regulatory frameworks.

Capstone is a global policy research and consulting firm with presence in Washington DC, New York, Houston, London, Paris, Brussels, and Mumbai. We help our clients predict policy, quantify its impact, and recommend revenue-driving strategies to companies and institutional investors. At Capstone, we recognize that our ability to build a world-class firm requires attracting and retaining top talent. We hire individuals of exceptional talent, skill, and potential, and provide an environment that is conducive to one’s professional and personal growth, allowing each employee to reach their fullest potential.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct commercial due diligence on energy companies (and their products / services), assessing market size (TAM/SAM/SOM), growth potential, commercial outlook, competitive positioning, analysis of growth tailwinds/headwinds, right to win, and business strategy.
    • Analyze supply/demand fundamentals, power pricing, capacity markets, offtake structures, and resource adequacy to support investment decisions.
    • Assess federal and state policy, regulatory, and market developments and assess their implications for our clients’ energy investment theses.
    • Synthesize findings into clear, board-ready, data-driven reports and investment recommendations.
    • Serve as a senior point of contact for investors, portfolio companies, lenders, and energy stakeholders to inform strategic and capital allocation decisions.
    • Mentor and manage junior team members, overseeing analytical workstreams and quality of deliverables.

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years of relevant experience in commercial due diligence with a focus or, at a minimum, meaningful exposure to the energy sector.
    • Familiarity with energy markets, including power, renewables, midstream, upstream, and emerging clean energy sectors.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead complex engagements and manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to C-suite and investment committee audiences.
    • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA) strongly preferred.

The expected compensation for this role is $200,000 - $250,000annually, plus eligibility for Capstone's annual bonus pool.

We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
