Under the direction of the Senior Executive Director - Equity and with a focus on organizational development and continuous improvement; the Director - Equity leads the district-wide implementation of the City Schools Equity Policy and provide direct supervision or support of office-wide initiatives. The Director - Equity provides direct support, training, and consultation for employees across the organization and serves as a prioritized consultant on broader district policy, practices, and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Supports Senior Executive Director and the Office of Equity in providing leadership in the implementation of the Equity Policy.
  • Supports Senior Executive Director with managing the work of each team in the Office of Equity.
  • Supports Senior Executive Director with management of district-wide implementation of the City Schools Policy ADA-Equity
  • Directly supervises a team of Educational Specialists II - Equity responsible for the school-based implementation of the City Schools Equity Policy
  • Directly supervises the Program Manager - BMore Me, responsible for the implementation of the BMore Me Student Leadership initiative
  • Provides support and training to staff executing high-priority district initiatives.
  • Provides strategic support to each team within the Office of Equity
  • Manages office-wide staff recruitment and selection
  • Manages office-wide data management and reporting
  • Develops and manages Office of Equity staff professional development facilitator onboarding and development
  • Serves as Office of Equity staff professional development coach and develops professional differentiated professional development plans
  • Develops, coordinates, facilitates, and evaluates training and professional development to City Schools employees to build capacity in the application of a racial equity lens.
  • Provides support to schools and offices on the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that support equity across every indicator of City Schools' student success.
  • Provides training and implementation support on building inclusive climates that honor the culture, experiences, and humanity of students, families, and community.
  • Provides support to schools to reduce the use of interventions that remove students from the active learning environment.
  • Provides Equity-Diven coaching to school-based and central office staff
  • Works collaboratively with offices to determine, acknowledge, and disrupt structures and practices that create and perpetuate systems of inequity in academics, accountability, facilities, finance, human capital, schools, etc.
  • Serves as member of the City schools Policy Review Team
  • Serves as member of the City Schools Leadership Team
  • Serves as a liaison to offices to ensure the coordinated delivery of services to schools.
  • Serves as a liaison to district offices and workgroups to support the application of an equity lens in decision making, policy development, evaluation, etc.
  • Serves as a liaison to external organizations to ensure City Schools representation and support the application of an equity lens.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional
  • Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work in the most efficient manner; proactively communicates the status of work; participates and contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.
  • Maintains confidential and sensitive information.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, administrative regulations, and professional standards.
  • Develops, coordinates, and facilitates training and professional development to City Schools employees in order to build capacity in the application of an equity lens. Examples include Equity-Fellowships, Symposia, and Conferences.
  • Presents at local and national conferences.

Maximum Salary 202832.00

Minimum Salary 118909.00

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required from an accredited institute of higher education.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) professional licensure with Advanced Professional Certificate, with an endorsement as Administrator I.
  • At least ten years of relevant full-time professional experience with at least five years of people management experience.
  • Ability to interact with diverse constituencies and convey complicated information with tact and diplomacy.
  • Proficient skill in the use of technical computer applications, including electronic databases, case management systems, and Microsoft Office, including Excel and Power Point.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Skill in research, presenting, and explaining policies and procedures, assembling data, preparing complex reports, and formulating and presenting recommendations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize changing assignments, and organize busy workload, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure, while exercising excellent attention to detail.

In accordance with Maryland law, City School is required to share the position salary ranges in its entirety. Please note, this is not the hiring range. The hiring range for this position is ($118,909 - 173,577).
