The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) is a nonprofit organization and is one of the only National Olympic/Paralympic Committees in the world that does not receive government funding for its Olympic and Paralympic programs, instead relying on the generous support of a committed community of donors and sponsors. Increasing philanthropic support for U.S. athletes is one of the USOPC’s highest strategic priorities and hence, the organization has established the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation (USOPF) as the fundraising organization for the USOPC and is investing significant resources in its Development division.
The Director, Games Hospitality Workforce is a director-level leadership role responsible for setting the strategic vision, operating model, and execution plan for the USOPC Hospitality and Leadership Initiative in support of the LA28 Games. This position leads program strategy, participant development, external partnerships, and Games-time execution for an immersive learning and professional development experience for Team USA Athlete Fellows transitioning from elite sport into professional careers. The ideal candidate brings proven director-level program leadership, strong executive presence, a service-driven mindset, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders while leading a distributed team of Athlete Fellows and athlete docents in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.
Here’s how you’ll have an impact:
- Set the strategic direction, operating model, and success measures for the Hospitality and Leadership Initiative, ensuring alignment with LA28 Games Hospitality objectives, USOPC Development priorities, and broader organizational goals.
- Collaborate with Athlete Development & Engagement to support Fellow participation in the overall USOPC Athlete Fellowship Program.
- Co-own budget planning, timelines, milestones, deliverables, risk management, and executive-level stakeholder communications with Athlete Development & Engagement team.
- Participate in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and development of up to 12 Athlete Fellows and 35 Athlete Docents, establishing selection standards and ensuring a consistent, high-quality participant experience.
- Design, direct, and continuously evolve business, leadership, and hospitality training curricula and experiences for Athlete Fellows, ensuring content is current, outcomes-driven, and aligned to professional development goals.
- Direct the integration of Athlete Hospitality Fellows into the Games Hospitality program, including role readiness, onboarding, operational preparation, and ongoing support.
- Serve as the senior program lead for Games-time role assignments, training support, issue resolution, and on-site execution for Athlete Fellows and athlete docents.
- Serve as the primary strategic partner to Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and other external stakeholders, aligning on program content, delivery, expectations, and outcomes.
- Advise and partner with internal USOPC leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure program goals, logistics, participant support, and stakeholder engagement align with broader organizational strategy.
- Provide leadership and operational oversight for up to 35 athlete docents and 12 Athlete Fellows during Games-time operations, including coaching, escalation management, and performance expectations.
- Support hospitality focused professional networking and career development programming that strengthens the long-term value of the fellowship experience and enhances the program's external reputation.
- Serve as the primary decision-maker for participant matters, personnel issues, escalations, and program-related needs throughout the fellowship lifecycle.
- Report program outcomes, risks, insights, and strategic recommendations to USOPC leadership, using data and stakeholder feedback to inform continuous improvement.
Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective:
- Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business administration, leadership development, education, nonprofit management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in program leadership, hospitality operations, executive coaching, business operations, or a related field, including demonstrated ownership of complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- 10+ years of experience leading teams, programs, or cross-functional workstreams, including responsibility for setting direction, managing priorities, coaching others, and driving accountability.
- Demonstrated experience managing senior-level stakeholders, external partners, budgets, timelines, deliverables, and strategic communications in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience leading and developing emerging professionals in a development, mentorship, or career-readiness capacity is strongly preferred.
- Ability to set strategic direction, establish priorities, and lead complex, multi-stakeholder programs from concept through execution.
- Strong executive presence and excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including experience briefing senior leaders and representing programs externally.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes with academic institutions, sponsors, internal leadership, and other high-profile partners.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage ambiguity, competing priorities, and evolving operational needs in a high-visibility environment.
- Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, developing, setting expectations, addressing performance needs, and holding others accountable.
- Ability to translate program goals into actionable plans, measurable outcomes, and clear communications for varied audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and comfort learning new systems and tools as needed.
Here’s where you’ll work:
- Fully remote.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Ability to work and be on-site in Los Angeles for up to 6 weeks throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- This is a full-time temporary role valid through September 30, 2028.
- Standard work hours with occasional weekends and nights
Here's some more information you need to know:
- Hiring pay range $125,000 - $130,000 per year.
- This Full-Time, Exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
- Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program, which has a 20% target. The USOPC may change or eliminate this program at any time at its sole discretion.
