The Team

Alvarez & Marsal is building a Global Trade practice and is seeking experienced professionals who want to play a meaningful role in shaping its future.

Launched in 2026 with a global mandate, A&M's Global Trade practice is comprised of senior practitioners with deep technical expertise who advise clients on the enforcement, tariff, and supply chain issues reshaping how multinational organizations operate. Directors have the opportunity to build lasting client relationships, contribute to the growth of the practice, and help shape the team as we continue to expand.

Seamless from advice through dispute. This role offers exposure to complex trade and customs matters from the advisory stage through resolution. You will work alongside experienced practitioners on matters where legal and consulting perspectives come together to help clients navigate evolving regulatory and business challenges.

No audit conflicts. A&M does not provide audit services and is not subject to the independence restrictions that can limit the advice offered to clients.

How you will contribute

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on customs and trade controversy matters, including prior disclosures, penalty proceedings, CBP audits and Focused Assessments, EAPA investigations, seizures, detentions, and protest-related matters.
• Help clients navigate complex trade remedy issues, including antidumping and countervailing duty proceedings, scope and circumvention matters, Section 232 and Section 301 exposure, exclusions, and IEEPA-based measures.
• Provide technical customs advisory services related to tariff classification, customs valuation, country of origin, free trade agreement qualification, duty drawback, foreign trade zones, and first sale for export planning.
• Assist clients in addressing forced labor and supply chain integrity issues, including UFLPA detentions, supply chain tracing, and remediation efforts.
• Support buy-side and sell-side transactions through trade-focused due diligence and post-close remediation initiatives.
• Lead client relationships and engagement teams in delivering practical solutions to complex global trade challenges.
• Contribute to the continued growth of the Global Trade practice through thought leadership, development of new offerings and tools, and business development activities.

• At least five years of substantive global trade experience gained within a law firm, consulting firm, government agency, or in-house trade function.
• A JD, CPA, Licensed Customs Broker credential, or another equivalent professional trade qualification.
• Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of global trade, customs advisory, trade controversy, trade remedies, supply chain integrity, or related disciplines.
• Experience managing client relationships and leading engagement teams.
• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex trade matters in a clear, concise, and actionable manner.

• An existing book of business or established client relationships with the potential to generate new business opportunities.
• Experience working within or alongside CBP, the Department of Commerce, USTR, DOJ, ITC, or other government agencies involved in trade and customs matters.
• Industry experience supporting clients in manufacturing, consumer and retail, industrials, life sciences, or technology sectors.
• Experience utilizing trade technology, automation tools, or data analytics to support trade and customs initiatives.
• Admission to practice law in New York or another U.S. jurisdiction.

• Based in New York with a hybrid work model and an expectation of meaningful in-person collaboration with both team members and clients.
• Travel of approximately 20-30%, depending on client needs and engagement requirements.
• Reports to the Managing Directors leading A&M's Global Trade practice.

The salary range is $165,000 - $200,000 annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
