About the job

As Director, Competition, you will lead the global team that shapes the broader public policy teams voice on the set of issues related to competition in the technology space. Internally, you will collaborate with cross-functional partners in Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Comms, Marketing, and within GAPP to craft positions around competition policy, including policies relating to competitive dynamics in the Internet and technology ecosystem and proposed regulation.

In this role, you will have an in-depth understanding of competition policy issues and related legal and economic subjects. You will identify and evaluate major and emerging competition trends around the world and understand their importance to the company and its users. You"ll participate in and lead cross-functional teams, thinking globally and across our products, and advising teams around the world on your issues. In addition, you will develop and execute public policy campaigns on issues of concern to Google and the broader ecosystem, working with a broad array of internal and external stakeholders.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the companys engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others views and opinions, and distill and share the companys perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $264,000-$367,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Learn more about benefits at Google.

Responsibilities

  • Shape Google"s policy positions, strategies, and campaigns around competition matters globally. Coordinate with the global policy team and other cross-functional teams, including Regulatory Affairs and Legal, Communications, Partnerships, and Product and Business teams.
  • Provide in-depth policy expertise and strategic horizon scanning on competition matters, including how AI is affecting these areas.
  • Engage (both directly and supporting senior leadership) with policymakers, industry players, and key opinion formers in thoughtful dialogue about how Google competes on the merits and the competitive landscape Google faces, and shape multistakeholder approaches to AI competition threats and opportunities.
  • Manage a high-functioning global competition policy team, developing and shaping the teams priorities and ensuring execution of those priorities.
