Director, Human Resources Business Partner

Role Summary

Reporting to the Global Head of People, the Director, Human Resources Business Partner supports leaders and employees across multiple business functions within the U.S. organization, providing strategic HR partnership, employee relations expertise, workforce planning support, and compliance guidance. This role partners closely with business leaders to drive organizational effectiveness, manage employee relations matters, and support a high-performing workforce within a regulated medical device environment. The role is based in Redwood City and requires an onsite presence three to four days per week, with the remaining schedule operating in a hybrid capacity.

Strategic Business Partnership

• Partner with leaders across multiple business functions to align people strategies with business objectives.
• Provide guidance on workforce planning, employee engagement, retention, performance management, and organizational change.
• Act as a trusted advisor on employee relations matters, policy interpretation, and workforce risk management.
• Partner effectively with both onsite and field-based employee populations.

Employee Relations & Workplace Investigations

• Lead complex employee relations matters, investigations, performance concerns and conflict resolution.
• Ensure consistent application of policies and employment laws.
• Coach managers on documentation, corrective action and difficult employee conversations.

Manufacturing & Operations Partnership

• Support manufacturing and operations leaders on workforce planning, retention and engagement.
• Provide HR guidance within an onsite manufacturing environment.
• Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory teams.

Manager Coaching & HR Consultation

• Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders on people issues and team dynamics.
• Guide leaders through workforce decisions while balancing business needs and compliance.

Compliance & Regulatory Alignment

• Ensure adherence to employment laws and regulations.
• Support FDA, ISO and GxP aligned practices where applicable.

HR Technology, Analytics & Operations

• Serve as an HRIS partner to HR Operations.
• Provide backup support for critical HR Operations processes when needed.
• Analyze workforce metrics and trends.

Recruiting & Workforce Planning

• Partner with Talent Acquisition on hiring strategies and workforce planning.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive HR experience.
• Deep employee relations expertise.
• Manufacturing, operations, medical device, biotech or regulated industry experience strongly preferred.
• Strong California and multi-state employment law knowledge.
• Experience supporting onsite and geographically dispersed employees.
• HRIS systems experience and familiarity with HR operations processes.
• SHRM-SCP or SPHR preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.

Compensation: $217,000 - $253,000
