Qualifications:
- Master's degree, or higher in Special Education, Educational Leadership or related field.
- Eligibility for full approval as a Supervisor or Director of Special Education, in addition to an administrator certification.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with at least five (5) years of experience in a special education setting
- Experience with low-incidence disabilities and Center Program Operation, preferred
- Successful administrative experience providing or supervising special education services is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of Secondary and post-secondary special education service delivery models is highly desired.
- Demonstrated administrative ability and experience in collaborative skills and attitudes to work with others in teams, effective interpersonal communication skills, creativity, problem-solving and flexibility.
- High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively balance independent decision-making with collaborative leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
Responsibilities:
- Supervise the Lamphere Center Special Education Center-Based Program
- Oversee all operation of the school and its personnel
- Maintain a safe building that creates a positive school climate and culture
- Monitor, evaluate, and ensure development and implementation of quality evaluations, IEPs, referrals, transition planning, re-evaluations, and provision of a free appropriate public education.
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate special education teachers, paraprofessionals, ancillary staff, and building-based teacher consultants.
- Lead recruitment, selection, and recommendation for hiring of personnel for the building.
- Plans, promotes, and delivers in-depth and ongoing professional learning
- Assists in planning and developing the school budget and supervises the expenditures from this budget and all fiscal matters pertaining to the school
- Establishes high expectations for teacher and student performance
- Coordinates building-level programs and/or initiatives
- Communicates regularly with families regarding school activities, student needs or concerns
- Ensure all special education programs and services meet State and Federal guidelines and adhere to monitoring procedures
- Coordinate the development and maintenance of support services and special education forms; maintain student files, and respond to requests for records as appropriate
- Work cooperatively with Oakland Schools and county Special Education Administration to monitor, evaluate, and make final recommendations regarding student referrals
- Participates effectively and cooperatively as a member of the Lamphere Administrative Team, attending all required Administrative meetings, School Board meetings, and districtwide committee meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
This position is classified as Exempt
Employment is contingent upon disclosure in accordance with PA-189.
Ability to withstand the strains and successfully manage the responsibilities of the position.
Must demonstrate reliability and punctuality, with a strong record of consistent attendance. Regular and dependable presence during school hours is essential.
