Summary
The Director of Marine Construction & Dredging Operations provides leadership and oversight of Ahtna Marine & Construction Company's marine construction and dredging operations. This position is responsible for operational performance, project execution, safety, workforce leadership, financial results, equipment utilization, client relationships, and regulatory compliance. The Director works closely with the President, project teams, clients, subcontractors, and business partners to ensure the successful delivery of marine construction and dredging projects while supporting the continued growth and profitability of the company. The position provides direction for operational planning, resource management, contract performance, and initiatives that support organizational objectives.
The salary Range for this position is between $178,806 - $228,872/year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)
Operational Leadership
- Provide leadership and oversight for marine construction and dredging operations to ensure safe, efficient, and successful project execution.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of marine construction and dredging projects.
- Direct project planning activities, including scope development, resource allocation, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
- Monitor operational and project performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure effective utilization, maintenance, deployment, and lifecycle planning of marine equipment, vessels, and operational assets.
Financial & Business Management
- Develop and execute operational strategies that support company objectives, project performance, and business growth.
- Manage operational budgets and project financial performance, including forecasting, cost control, profitability, and resource utilization.
- Review project status, schedules, budgets, and contract requirements to support successful project outcomes.
- Support business development efforts, including proposal development, technical approach reviews, cost estimating, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations.
- Prepare and present operational, financial, and project performance reports to company leadership.
Client & Contract Management
- Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, subcontractors, contracting officers, regulatory agencies, labor representatives, and business partners.
- Manage risks associated with contract performance, operational activities, regulatory compliance, and project execution.
- Ensure projects are executed in accordance with contract requirements and customer expectations.
- Support contract negotiations, modifications, and resolution of performance-related issues.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a culture of safety throughout marine construction and dredging operations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, maritime, environmental, and contractual requirements.
- Establish and maintain quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices that improve operational effectiveness and project delivery.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop project managers, operational personnel, and support staff.
- Support workforce planning, succession planning, recruitment, and employee development initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Negotiate and maintain effective working relationships with labor unions and workforce representatives, as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly and indirectly supervises project management, field operations, equipment management, administrative, and contract personnel supporting marine construction and dredging operations. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, employee development, disciplinary actions, and workforce planning. Supervisory responsibilities may include Program Managers, Project Managers, Equipment Managers, administrative personnel, and other assigned staff.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Marine Science, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and directly related experience may be considered.
- Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in marine construction, dredging, maritime operations, heavy civil construction, or related industries.
- Five (5) years of leadership experience overseeing projects, operations, personnel, and operational resources.
- Experience managing multiple projects, budgets, schedules, equipment resources, and operational priorities simultaneously.
- Knowledge of marine construction techniques, dredging methodologies, and industry best practices.
- Working knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Knowledge of maritime, environmental, and safety regulations applicable to marine construction and dredging operations.
- Strong leadership, financial management, contract administration, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing federal government construction or dredging contracts.
- Experience operating in remote, maritime, or Alaska-based environments.
- Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures.
