Job Summary and Qualifications

The purpose of this position is to formulate strategic direction and implement strategies to develop and maintain daily Operations of the Hospital. This structure is required to provide staffing and scheduling components along with processes that allow for improved patient flow throughout the organization this position provides leadership and direction to staff as appropriate to support the interests of all parties involved in serving patients effectively, safely and efficiently.

What you will do in the role:

  • Develops and deploys evidence-based strategies to improve the effectiveness of nursing operations that are measureable in care systems, processes and patient outcomes to support the HCA Nursing agenda.
  • Define and continuously update the HCA Operational Standards for utilization of sitters, throughput, and other practice related workflows for continuous improvement.
  • Define and continuously update HCA Patient Care Unit Operational standards.
  • Works collaboratively with Performance Improvement to improve nursing processes leading to better retention throughout the enterprise.
  • Guides and directs the development and execution of the HCA Float pools, reduce variations in practice and collaboration with HWS to programs to encourage effective and efficient deployment of strategies.
  • Analyzes HCA nursing operational performance and effectiveness by synthesizing data at unit level from labor management reports, staff and physician satisfaction, patient experience, clinical outcomes, and other pertinent metrics.
  • Executes nursing practice and operations elements of the HCA Nursing Agenda Provides subject matter expertise on nursing processes to all lines of business and to defined clinical and operational initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with CSG, IT&S, PI, Human Resources and Group Operations to design and deploy programs that optimize the utilization of resources
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on issues including labor management, models of care delivery, governance structures, and organizational structures.
  • Prepares and presents executive reports and presentations.
  • Plan, develop and implement the dashboard reporting for length of stay and throughput initiatives project components.
  • Ensure accuracy of policies and procedures addressing throughput, length of stay initiative, staffing and scheduling
  • Work with Sr. Leadership to facilitate efforts to build awareness, commitment and actions among HHHW physician leaders, and the medical staff and administration to improve patient throughput and bed management.
  • Participate in meetings and on committees, as well as seeking out educational opportunities, to improve personal performance on overall HHHW service excellence.
  • Serve as a role model for and demonstrate the components of the PEAK values statement.
  • Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Completes all hospital required and job-related in services and applies the information as needed.
  • Facilitates the production and sharing of performance, utilization, and fiscal data amongst the nursing leadership team.
  • Demonstrates fiscal efficiency and accountability within department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Improve Operations by: Collaborating with the Administrative Team and physicians to enhance existing or develop new opportunities for services.
  • Providing administrative and operational leadership for assigned departments.
  • Ensuring the application of Customer Service principles in meeting and exceeding the expectations of internal and external customers to provide satisfaction.
  • Managing fiscal operation of assigned departments using the budget as a guideline for revenue and expense analysis on an ongoing basis to determine potential variances and make adjustments where necessary.
  • Managing operations of assigned departments to achieve targets for designated Key Performance Indicators
  • Developing new processes or services which includes, when appropriate, business and financial justification.
  • Developing and updating department goals consistent with the facility’s strategic business plan, mission and vision.
  • Meeting leadership obligations under the Ethics and Compliance Program.
  • Building strong relationships with physicians, employees, and peers
  • Utilizing HCA tools to help with management of responsibilities (PLUS, CERs, CAMS Projects, Lawson, etc.)
  • Managing multiple throughput program initiatives for timeliness and report progress periodically to the hospital executive operations team. Support collaboration of processes and systems to promote effective and timely reporting of critical benchmarking data for throughput and length of stay initiatives.
  • Periodically assess and update of information utilized in capacity planning model and capacity planning tools to ensure identification and alignment of strategic growth

What qualifications you will need:
  • (RN) Registered Nurse license required
  • Masters Degree required
  • Minimum of 5 years nursing experience in acute care setting with no less than 2 years in a management capacity
