LOCATION: 1097 Commercial Ave, East Petersburg PA - some remote flexibility once fully trained
HOURS: Full Time, 40 hours per week
The Director of Accounting manages the daily operational activities of the accounting department. The position is responsible for ensuring financial statements are compiled in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and UPHS policies. Directs and oversees the preparation and distribution of financial reports and analysis to support the organization’s operational and strategic goals, and initiatives. The Director of Accounting oversees the preparation of the required tax filings to ensure compliance with State and Federal requirements.
The Director of Accounting provides financial support and leadership to the Accounting team, entity Controller and CFO. In addition, this position requires working closely with members of the executive team, other leaders, and teams within UPHS entities.
Financial Accounting Operations and Processes:
- Manage the monthly financial close process coordinating with UPHS Corporate Accounting
- Oversee the monthly financial reporting and variance analysis process including detailed review of balance sheet and statement of operations and changes in net assets
- Understand inter-entity relationships and transactions for accurate accounting and reporting
- Accountable to maintain internal controls and best practices which are designed to support accurate, timely, and reliable financial information o Identify, recommend, and execute improvements to accounting processes
- Coordinate the quarterly and annual external audit processes
- Oversee the cash management and accounting support staff functions
Financial Reporting
- Responsible and accountable for having financial statement results accurately and consistently reported on an accrual basis in conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and UPHS policies
- Build efficient, flexible, and effective reporting and analytic tools
- Coordinate and prepare appropriate analytics to support financial results o Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
- Provide assistance and advice in interpreting financial results
- Oversee preparation and submission of internal and external surveys
- Deliver reporting and analytics to varying audiences within the Organization to include but not limited to the Finance team, operational leaders, executives, board, committees, UPHS Corporate Partners
- Maintain and continue to grow knowledge and skills using Infor, Essbase, Smartview, Hyperion, EPIC, similar and related systems
Tax Reporting
- Responsible for managing State and Federal tax reporting; including the IRS Form 990 and 990T, State sales tax, and other tax related items
- In conjunction with external tax consultants and internal UPHS tax partner, ensure returns are accurately and consistently reported based on State and Federal requirements •
Management
- Recruit, train, and retain talented results-oriented team members
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for staff; assign work activities, projects; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems
- Motivate, engage, and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies
- Encourage continuous growth to help team members realize full potential through individualized education, learning plans, goal setting, and stretch objectives
- Build relationships which instill trust, confidence, transparency, and safety.
Other
- Serve as a resource for technical and consultative support o Assist in development and implementation of Finance goals, policies, priorities, and procedures
- Actively participate in leadership meetings and activities
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field
- 7 years of experience progressively responsible Finance, Accounting, Financial Reporting and Analysis experience
- 3 years of management experience
- Ability to recruit, lead and manage a high-performing diverse team
- Ability to create an environment where people are motivated to do their best to achieve objectives
- Strong financial/business acumen
- Strong analysis and problem-solving skills; ability to lead team through problem solving situations
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed structure
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all organizational levels of personnel
- Ability to manage rapidly changing priorities and deadlines
- Project Management - strong ability to develop solid plans and execute to achieve project milestones
- Skilled in using Microsoft Offices products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Skilled in using Infor, Essbase, Smartview, Hyperion, EPIC, similar and related systems
- Knowledge of healthcare accounting and operations (Preferred)
- Certified Public Accountant or Masters in Business Administration (Preferred)
